Do you go to the Christmas work ‘do’ ?

The email is out and I can see it’s at a pub in our local city. It’s a nice enough menu but I’m really not bothered about going. I know it sounds miserable but socialising with people I either don’t know/don’t like stresses me.
Are you going to yours this year?

No. Everyone goes to get pissed and I dont drink. Im also the oldest person at work and Id rather be in bed early than watching young people get drunk. We all get on very well at work but I have no interest in these socials.
Mind you Id quite like to have been at the last one. Someone got sacked for gross misconduct...one of the men.

Yes, I like to get as much money out of the company as possible! A lot of people don’t bother though, I’d say more don’t go than do go from my workplace.

I used to but I really don’t like them. It’s cold and miserable, I’m socially awkward and usually skint at that time of year. I usually book annual leave for the week it falls in and ‘oh dear we have plans to go away!’

I think I may say this too, lol.

I’m one of the older ones too, so know what you mean.

Always. I am sociable, like most people (or can at least find some common ground with most), and have been lucky enough to have had colleagues I get on with in all my jobs. Now I am quite senior, I tend to leave the party earlier to let the junior staff have fun without the boss hanging around though.

I don’t fully understand the negativity and vitriol in some of the posts; it’s a nice way to bond and is done on the company’s money. I am still friends with people from 20 years ago who I first bonded with at a work Christmas party. People I would not necessarily have come across during my working day because they were in different departments or we were just really busy.

Yes but I am friends with quite a few people I work with and we socialise out of work as well. I'm a teacher which might be relevant, we see each other at work but most of the time we are in our own rooms with students so.it's not like we have time to talk at work.

Still friends with people at my old school too and went along to their Christmas do the last couple of years too.

Yes I go and have always gone, I enjoy them far less now than I used to

MenorcaGin · 27/10/2026 16:37

No. Unless forced. It’s my idea of hell that I also have to pay for!
