Seeking input on support for care leavers and childhood trauma

I hope this is allowed here? As someone who experienced being in care, and now an adult - I’m in the process of starting a CIC organisation. But I would also really like some input from those who have been in a similar situation:

I am beginning a project which supports young people in care, adult care leavers or those who have experienced ACE ( Adverse Experiences in Childhood).

As a future founder, who has also experienced the care system, I feel strongly that not enough is done to support young people and adults. I believe that in order to reduce risks and provide better outcomes, empowerment through tailored, trauma informed education and support should be an option.

Please note that “ACE” refers to an
adverse event(s) you experienced when you were under 18.

Your answers will be anonymous and no personal identifying information will be collected. Your answers will help shape how the (non-profit) organisation will support and empower others.

If you’d like, please forward to others who you may be able to take part :)

There are already many organisations doing work in this area. All already competing for funding and resources that are being cut. What is unique or different about your service?

The questions asked in the survey there is literally whole research papers and PHDs exploring. I'm not denying it's an issue that needs attention but I'm not sure that yet another organisation being set up is the answer.

You are right, there’s various resources for those in care, and care leavers. And there’s several organisations who deliver similar themed RSHE.

however, especially in my area, they are often set in schools, have high criteria for a referral and are not hugely holistic. I.e there are services which offer workshops and interventions to young people around consent, sex education and boundaries. Another is for high risk young people, and helping them build self-esteem.

This support would be largely peer-led, focusing on a range of aspects, and would be open to young people and adults of all ages. Experiencing ACE or being in care doesn’t just resolve when you turn.. say 40. People well into adulthood are still dealing with difficulties that arose decades ago.

and yes, you will find that with many informal surveys such as mine, seeking opinions from others, already have PHD papers on the topics. We can look at the academia and see - yes there is a clear issue and evidence that already supports my idea. But it’s about hearing genuine, raw and unique perspective first hand.
