Agoraphobia - Is this a really stupid idea

The background is; I am 48 and suddenly developed agoraphobia around 18 months ago. Stress and peri menopause related. I’m on 150mg sertaline (reduced from 200mg a couple of months ago), 50mg Evorel and 40mg propanalol as and when needed.

I’m a single parent to DDs 16 & 12. DD2 has autism and (undiagnosed) Pathological Demand Avoidance. She is in year 7 at school, but hasn’t been in since October as it is all too much to cope with (I have another thread about that). She will rarely go to her Dad’s and will not go to other people, and she sleeps in my bed 50% of the time, as I am
her safe person. She needs me, but her behaviour and demands can trigger a panic attack in me.

I have been challenging the agoraphobia bit by bit and last weekend I managed a 3.5hr train journey and a Harry Styles concert in a heatwave. It was really tough though.

As DD1 has finished her GCSEs I was thinking about trying to go away abroad for a few nights before the English school holidays start. The DDs have never been on a sun/beach holiday and are desperate to do one. DD1 is going to do Spanish A Level and would love to go.

i have found a good deal All Inclusive for 4 nights next week. The airport is 1 hour from us, the flight is 2.5hrs and transfer at the other end is 35mins. Would I be really stupid to do this?

Yup! Do it! You'll feel such a sense of achievement... And have fun!

Not stupid in the slightest. Remember bravery isn't not being scared, bravery is being scared and doing it anyway.

Go for it
