Progesterone intolerance

Has anybody else felt awful after starting oral progesterone capsules in menopause.
I was on Evorel Conte patches which contain synthetic progesterone and was feeling anxious a lot, so switched to oestrogen only patches with bio identical progesterone capsules.
my anxiety is now much worse. It’s supposed to make you feel better.
Anyone else had this experience?

Don't always assume it's the progesterone, it could be the oestrogen! Are you on a high dose? I had to scale right back to 1 pump a day as it was making me feel extremely jittery with increased anxiety.

Yes, definitely. GP suggested switching to continuous, where you take a slightly reduced dose every day, saying it avoids the fluctuations which cause the difficulties, but it didn't help for me, I just felt in a rage the whole time, and in the end I decided to stop HRT altogether.

Maybe I miss it for other reasons, but life is definitely might better without the progesterone.

Thanks for your reply. I actually wondered if it might be the oestrogen. It’s just that everything I read is confusing. Oestrogen is supposed to be relaxing, progesterone is also supposed to be relaxing!!!
I’ll look into reducing the oestrogen but have inky just upped it to 75mg from
50mg.

Thanks. Interesting that some people react badly to progesterone and for others it’s oestrogen.

It is so hard trying to find the right dose. I was the same, kept increasing the oestrogen as everything I read said it was wonderful for anxiety until I dug a little deeper and realised that it was the energizing hormone! Maybe stick to the your lower dose for a while until your body gets used to the new progesterone.

Thank you. I think I will do this!

I use progesterone suppositories and they seem to better tolerated for me. Cyclogest.

Did you feel anxious with the oral progesterone capsules?

OP posts:

And my doctor won’t prescribe cyclogest until Ivecseen a menopause specialist!

I can’t tolerate any form of progesterone, I found out this the hard way when my doctor prescribed cerezette in my thirties.

I started Everol sequi at the beginning of the year and was fine until I had to use the conti patch for two weeks. Luckily this time I knew what to look out for so I stopped them before the black cloud could take hold.

It absolutely sucks being a woman and trying to find the right balance of hormones so you have my sympathy.

Thank you. Yes, I’m sorry you had the same experience with progesterone. There are people who take loads of it and swear it makes them relaxed and happy. Not for me 😚
