Does anyone have any experience of a crisis house? My aduly DC has just been admitted to one.

Yes I spent a week in one.

I had daily sessions with a counsellor however I saw a different person each day and that didn’t help my headspace having to start from scratch each time.

the activities the staff do are really lovely, group cooking, film nights, music therapy, meditation, therapy dogs, arts and crafts. It was a nice escape for a while but the aftercare was rubbish.

My friend went to one and said the same thing- great for the 5 days she was there then zero support in the community sadly. I’m not sure what the maximum stay is? But 5 days wasn’t long enough for her.

Unfortunately, I can’t imagine that a week would be enough to make lasting change for anyone who was in crisis when they went in.

Is this a Place of Safety ?

If it's a charity crisis centre it's unusual for them to even let someone stay for more than a few nights, never mind offer activities and so on. I've never heard of one that offers any sort of "aftercare", because that isn't their role. They are not a counselling service (normally), they are not the NHS, they are not a mental health hospital, they are not the community mental health team.

Their purpose is normally just to provide a place of safety and tranquillity for people who are so concerned by their own mental state that they do not want to be alone in their own abode, and they normally only engage if you've previously been referred to them by a service that already has knowledge of you and can vouch that you are not just a chancer looking for a free nights' b&b, and not some weirdo who is likely to pose a safeguarding risk to other service users.

She's under a CMHT and was referred by the crisis team. Her therapist is currently on leave. She has been told she can stay for up to 14 days.

No. PoS is where people sometimes stay whilst they look for a bed/ are awaiting a MHA.

OP, I found the crisis house very helpful and it did avoid me getting admitted again. I hope your family member finds it useful.

I was in one last summer. It was basically somewhere to sleep that wasn’t my own home. There were no activities or therapy, there were nurses there 24/7 and you could talk to them and they gave you your meds but that was it. Even down to food, you bought your own stuff and were responsible for making it x
