CPTSD unexpected due to bullying at work

So I had 5 years of targeted bullying by my ultimate line manager, I pursued every possible avenue to address this and now I am in limbo waiting to be given a job with the equivalent status. I have CPTSD and I was wondering if anyone else had experience of suffering this after what I can only describe as bullying.

I have CPTSD from childhood with a narcissistic mother.

The best advice I can give you is to try to understand your triggers. I was badly gaslit so when someone says something about me that’s not accurate it massively triggers me. Same with anything I feel is unfair because I was always accused of doing things I didn’t do.

Once you can identify your triggers it’s somewhat easier to control the reaction. It’s a never ending onion and now matter how much I peel, there is always another layer.

You can learn to live peacefully with it in my experience but the work is tough to get there.

I've had it from work bullying situations. Things that helped me include;

  • time
  • CBT
  • leaving the place of work

Time and space are the best healers. CBT helps to reframe it in your head.

Hugs cos I know how awful it is.

Agree with @Cazzovuoi you need to work out what your triggers are, and they can be really ordinary stuff that seems unconnected but if it has the same kind of feeling to it ...then BAM...🤯

My CPTSD is from childhood abuse. My biggest triggers are

  1. Having to do something I don't want to.
  2. Not being believed.

So I get massively triggered by more obviously traumatic stuff like smear tests and other physical examinations at the doctors and routine dentistry, but also mundane stuff like having to submit work to a deadline, or gentle banter from family about cheating at boardgames FFS 🙄

Hopefully once you have moved roles things will settle down for you, as it is still fairly recent and you are not yet removed from the main source Flowers

Im so sorry you went through this, I was accused of minor things I didn't do and then gaslighted when I gave concrete evidence to the contrary. It has changed my prior view of the world that people are generally fair so I have little trust in anything or anyone. Luckily I have been offered counselling so hopefully that will help.

Thank you. I almost feel like a fraud because people don't understand that you can get CPTSD from workplace bullying.
