Has anyone used Better Help?

Im struggling with a few things at the moment, questioning my marriage and overwhelmed with parenting two small children and managing the house. I've seen Better Health advertised before and like the flexibility it offers, and can get 30% off for 3 months through work, but is it worth the money? I just want to talk things through with someone impartial, feel like I can't see the wood for the trees at the moment.

I personably did not have a good experience. I really didn’t like my therapist. She seemed totally unprofessional and unhelpful and she never followed up with me. To be fair I didn’t try to get BetterHelp to do anything about this, I just sort of gave up as she’d put me off so much. Im sure other peiple will have a different experience but it didn’t work for me.

Hi, therapist here. Sadly we hear lots of clients having bad experiences with better help. Their business model sees a lot of money go to advertising but little going to the actual therapists. This means that therapists are often not able to dedicate the same time and resources that they would normally be able to. You can use directories like counselling directory to find a qualified and registered therapist. If you prefer online sessions, most therapists offer that these days. Most also offer a free intro call where you can discuss more how they would support you and ask any questions you have about them/ therapy.

I would also advise you to stay well clear. Their vetting process is even worse than the BACP, so you have no idea if your therapist is even properly trained. As @MotherNT already noted, they pay peanuts, so the therapists are either not qualified enough for NHS employment, and/or they see 10 patients a day in order to turn a profit.

Places like the UKCP and BPC have lists of property trained therapists, and if you're hard up for cash, always ask about low-fee sessions, which many well qualified therapists do.

Another therapist suggesting you swerve Betterhelp. As well as all the reasons given above, they were prosecuted in the US for sharing data without permission.
Have a look at UKCP or BACP’s therapist directories. It’s important to find a therapist that you can work with, so look at some directory listings and see who you are drawn to. It’s rare for therapists not to offer online sessions.
Good luck

@CAMHSDoctorwhilst I sympathise a lot with the sentiments of your post, it’s not always about being not qualified enough for NHS employment, it’s sometimes about modality and location. NHS employment is variable by location and also only employs specific types of therapists. I still wouldn’t work for Betterhelp though!

Thanks all, I appreciate the input. I'll have a look and see if I can find one directly. I think the appeal of betterhelp was that it could be done via message rather than a call/in person. At the moment I don't want my DH to know I'm talking to someone (he's not abusive, I'm safe), I just want to work out how I'm feeling about the future before I discuss it with him.

I used it twice. It helped me get it all off my chest and I felt validated which helped me alot. I dont think id use them again though.
