Getting doctors appointment

Hi, I've become so stressed with work, over a period of time, that I just can't function anymore. I'm quite introverted, but have worked to perform well in a role that has demanded that I run many meetings a day, often involving large groups of customers. I also have a very demanding load of technical and detailed work that I can't possibly get done...

I've hit a wall, I can't think straight anymore, or sleep, and work pervades my whole life.l, and have been off work for a few days.

So..I reluctantly rang the doctors surgery, to get an appointment to talk about a note for a bit of time off to breathe. The receptionist asked what was wrong with me, and I told her it was about work related stress - but she wanted specific details of exactly what had happened and what kind of symptoms I felt I had.
I don't find it easy, talking when I'm stressed or down, and currently I start to cry if I talk about how I feel - how can it be that you have to go into details, to be allowed to have an appointment!?
It shouldn't make a difference, but for the record, I don't ask to see the doctor very often, less than once a year on average.

Because they need to know that you genuinely need the actual GP. They have plenty of other Health professionals there who might be more appropriate for certain conditions. They need to screen patients to an extent as the service is so overstretched.

Just say 'its MH related. I'm sorry I'm too upset to go into any more detail but it's urgent.'

The receptionist is just doing their job. I hope you get the help you need. X
