Thread to help me regulate

I've had horrible personal stress in last few weeks. Sleep is bad. I just need a little thread here to help me feel better. First, I'm going to try and go back to sleep for 25 mins, then get up and start a few tasks.

Good luck. I am in the same boat. Right now I feel I could cry or explode or something.

Flipitnreverseit · 24/10/2025 04:58

mind if I join you? I’ve woken up at 4am with such jaw pain from clenching, due to recent anxiety and stress.

I have therapy today which should help get me out of my funk for a bit.

currently wedged between my two kids, so I’ve buried my nose in the back of my youngests hair, as the smell of their little heads is like instant calm.

@garlictwist how are you doing now?

@Flipitnreverseit of course! I get bruxism too, although find that magnesium glycinate helps, have you tried that? It's generally quite good for anxiety. A coach recommended 300mg 20 mins before bed, seemed to help me with sleep. As always being consistent is the challenge! Great that you're doing therapy. What type is it? I'm doing EMDR at the moment, and think I'll be doing some form of therapy now on a continual basis for a while as a commitment to myself. I burned out massively last year and resolved never to let bad situations drag on again. Hard when you find that you've sleepwalked into one though but am feeling that the EMDR is giving me more clarity and boundaries. Sorry that was long. I love hugs!

I've ended a busy day at work, some good things happened, and I feel more clear about work. Clarity is super important, some people are clearer than others, asking is key, if I can remember to do this.

My head has felt a little steadier today. I check my calendar and realised the last 4 days were post ovulation when my mood can drop so that's been helpful to realise. I'm getting the progesterone coil fitted in December which should help with more stable moods.

I suppose I'm going to eat dinner - bought some Prep Kitchen high protein meals as I knew I just don't have spoons for cooking at the minute. I'm planning to have as early night as possible with some magnesium and maybe promethazine which is a drowsy antihistamine.

Weather seems quite chilly now, I'll put the heating on.

See you again for some more calming regulating chat.

I find magnesium great - I use the nutrition geeks brand ! sleep is a deal breaker for me (need 8 hours minimum but last week did 11 at parents’ house - very quiet there and feel very safe / secure )
I used to take ashwaghanda too although Im taking a break because I’m concerned it could be causing some irregularities in blood tests that are being investigated !
I have the mirena coil too and wish I’d had it ages ago - it haven’t bled since having it . Unsure how moods have changed though

I try to read to escape my thoughts
I also have to be physically active in the day .
Lavender oil on tissue / burner can help too

ConcordeSkyHigh · 25/10/2025 10:57

@Jenkibubble yes taking magnesium more regularly is helping. I haven't had a healthy relationship to sleep. Atm trying not to set too many goals!

I had a good night sleep. Drowsy as expected due to promethazine. Felt slightly bad looking at social media this morning. Cleaned the kitchen. Felt slightly bad about the state it was. Going to read the news on Press Reader. Then tackle doing a food shop and doing finances. I have some lavender spray, will get that 💜

Have done a food shop, had some lunch. Did my finances in two sittings. As always there's no money left, but bills are paid and food is covered.

Will need to look at finances again on Monday as there are standing orders going out.

There's a disjuncture between what I want to be doing and what I am doing, I'd like to be doing something for me, but instead I'm working through a huge backlog of admin, which is a symptom of my enormous overwhelm. I've been here so many times before though and I know that not facing it isn't a sustainable answer. I get more relief from being organised. So on we go.

I'll be in my spare room some music.

Anyone else want to share how they are self-regulating today?

I've done some paperwork. I'm now going to spend about an hour and a half on a wellbeing plan.

OP posts:
ConcordeSkyHigh · 26/10/2025 08:07

I found the wellbeing plan a challenge. I took magnesium which helped with falling asleep and slept around 5.5 hours.

I'm going to get up in 10 mins and have breakfast. I feel quite clear headed, and more motivated than I have in years so maybe the escitalopram is helping. Main thing is to avoid overthinking loops and also not overdo it.

Forgot clocks went back so actually had 6.5 hours sleep. Spoke to a friend then felt exhausted after. Ended up going back to sleep at lunchtime. Have to remember that sleeping when I need is part of regulating again. I'm going to make lunch in a few mins.

I felt terrible yesterday. Like it was a real step back. I think speaking to my friend left me feeling worse.

On the positive side I was not unaware I was feeling terrible. I'm still not able to move myself out of these states.

I had a good sleep. More would have been welcome!

Its quite sunny today which is good. I'm going to use my SAD lamp. I'm working to a new schedule e.g. work / break etc. Just need to stick to it and slowly build momentum. Avoid triggers.

Low mood and anxiety for a couple of days. Moving helps. Sleep helps. Going to put my SAD lamp on for 10 mins.

Slightly better today after being awake and getting going.

Back to work break routine.
