What happens if you leave hospital after an overdose before seeing Crisis?

My son had 2 overdoses in 24 hours. The second in the hospital waiting to see Crisis who never came. He gave up waiting after medically stable and walked out.

What will happen now? He rung Crisis when he got home who told him to ring CMHT Monday who are useless and the reason he was in there in the first place.

Honestly, probably nothing. He’ll be in the system as needing contact by the CMHT urgently, hopefully that will happen soon but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t until next week. If your son wants to actively engage with them though I would urge phoning them direct if he has a contact number for them or NHS 111 or (NHS 24 for Scotland) otherwise.

If you have concerns that your son may try to overdose again please call NHS and let them know the risk involved, pulling no punches! If he needs to be hospitalised for his own mental health then you can be his advocate here.

Nothing. He refused the help offered. NHS won't be busy tracking him down.

He didn't refuse help, none was given. He has autism and CPTSD for which no consideration was given. Waiting for an unspecified amount of time was proving intolerable. He’d been in there 63 hours and nobody from MH or Crisis had seen him. They said they’d cone in due course .CMHT is of no use, Crisis is more relevant. Why won’t he be seen by them out of hospital if he should have been seen in hospital by them?

He left. He should have asked the staff for them. Uf you leave the hospital without informing staff you refuse treatment and NHS won't be busy tracking you. He should have worked with staff to be seen outside the hospital.

Autism and CPTSD and +60 hours = dripfeeding. None of it makes his life easier and they could have treated him kinder. But NHS 2025 is fend for yourself. Help him make an appointment. Call them and sort it.⁸

He did ask staff for them repeatedly.

He was medically stable when he left ie no more treatment but wasn’t supposed to leave until he’d seen Crisis. He told them it was proving intolerable waiting-63 hours already and he’d need to leave.

They knew about his autism, CPTSD and other diagnoses but weren’t making any reasonable adjustments.

Crisis normally see you after an incident like this so not sure why they still can’t see him, he’s just as ill.

He left without an appointment. His choice not to wait for them. NHS won't be busy to track him down. NHS can't work wonders.

Had he also been diagnosed with EUPD? If so, you’ll find his overdoses will be put down as attention seeking behaviour and the crisis team won’t swoop in to help him.

I'm sure they will still follow up on him. /unfortunately it just won't be as quick as the situation demands

youalright · 18/10/2025 14:32

Yeah they dont care nothing will happen. Mh services won't step in until he is physically fit such as his drip has finished from overdose. And pp is right if he has bpd on his records they really won't care. I will not longer have anything to do with the crisis team, I have bpd was suicidal and rang for help and they said i have capacity so its my choice what I do and there is nothing they can do.

Cmht came to my son at home the following week twice. Are you with him? Will he let you help him? It's very difficult once they're an adult to advocate for them. My son also has asd and cptsd, it's a nightmare for him and he often can't tolerate the uncertainty surrounding services.
