PIP for OCD

Hi all!

I would love to get some info on this or hear any experiences.

I work full time, I’ve been on and off work for nearly 2 years now, I suffer with really bad anxiety and some days it’s worse than others.

I’ve suffered with it for a few years but have learnt/forced myself to manage - especially singing having a baby.

with my OCD, I have to count and do certain things in sets of threes. Sounds so silly to those who don’t know much about ODC but it’s draining. I’m constantly overusing products as when I’m doing my counting, I’m not satisfied with how it’s done and have to start again or something bad might happen.

now my question is, will I be entitled to PIP?

No point at all op

PIP is about how you function. Can you move around get dressed, wash, go to the toilet, go on a journey, cook meals - without prompting,.support or someone doing it for you.

If you can do all these things yourself then no, you won't be entitled to PIP. Google PIP descriptors and points for more information.

If the OCD impacts on your ability to undertake the daily living activities, safely and in a timely manner then you may be eligible. You should have a look at the Advice Now website, i think they have tool to check.

You should work on ways to manage the OCD, as this will really help. https://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/ocd-self-help/

If you can manage why do you need it? I have OCD, don’t claim PIP, I wouldn’t even try as the welfare state is under dire strain. Somebody else will need it more than me.

Have you ever pursued any external help or support? Something, anything that would involve an objective third party view rather than just your words?

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 30/09/2025 18:11

Nothing you have put in your post sounds like you would score a single point in any of the sections so I doubt it.

QueenClinomania · 30/09/2025 18:11

Probably not, tbh
You would have to prove that it significantly affects you every day and you need help/support/aids in order to function.

LlamaNoDrama · 30/09/2025 18:28

pip looks at very specific things but they should consider if you need support to do things (I can't remember the exact term they use but as in another person), you need gadgets to help, if you can reliably and repeatedly do something, or whether it takes you over twice the amount of time to do something due to your condition. you may be eligible but it can be hard to get unless you have a tonne of rock solid evidence ime.

padronpepper · 30/09/2025 18:29

Have you been diagnosed with OCD by a psychiatrist?

bestcatlife · 30/09/2025 18:44

You can claim PIP with OCD, but you need to look at the descriptors - for example preparing food, does your condition affect your ability to do this task, and how?

Overthebow · 30/09/2025 18:47

Have you looked at the PiP criteria? You need to meet those, can you wash and get dressed, can you make a meal, can you eat, can you walk a certain distance, can you use public transport and follow a route? Overusing products and being drained won’t make you eligible but if you can’t do the above then you could with OCD.

ComfortFoodCafe · 30/09/2025 18:48

Very unlikely you would get it.

Enigma54 · 30/09/2025 22:37

Look at the assessment criteria. Unlikely I would say..

Shineonyoucrazy · 30/09/2025 23:04

The key will be whether you can accomplish daily living tasks when you need to, and that they don’t take excessive time. My Mum had OCD that involved counting and ‘actions’ such as bobbing her head in a certain way and was also diagnosed with Paranoia and hoarding and there were days she barely managed (we missed Christmas dinner one year because she just couldn’t get her rituals finished) and would have been eligible if she had claimed - she had delusional ideas about the state so wouldn’t claim and it wasn’t in her best interests to override her for the sake of a few quid. If your OCD is really impairing your functioning you stand a good chance in my view. Good luck, severe OCD is the absolute pits.

Weloveoptimus · 30/09/2025 23:55

My son has just been awarded PIP for OCD. It took a while, but yes.

JellyRains · 01/10/2025 12:13

I get PIP for my OCD amongst other symptoms, but I can't manage my own life and wellbeing a lot of the time. I rely heavily on my partner to manage daily living. I have a lot of medical evidence from my psychiatrist and therapist. I have been sectioned a number of times. I can't work.

Does that all apply to you?
