Antipsychotic meds

Would you take anti psychotic medication if your psychiatrist had told you not to but things are so bad that you don’t know how to carry on? Husband has been fab advocating for me with the MH team, telling them how much better things were when I was on the tablets but the psych won’t budge. But I have boxes of the meds in the house…
Should add, I see and hear angels who tell me to do awful things when I’m not medicated. MH team will not visit me at home as they say I’m a danger. They reported me to the police. Husband has told them time and time again he feels unsafe but now they seem to be treating it as me being a domestic abuser not mentally ill.

Has the psychiatrist explained why they are so opposed to prescribing you an antipsychotic? Could you ask for a second opinion?

ninjahamster · 26/09/2025 22:59

They have said they believe I have a personality disorder due to childhood trauma except I had an amazing childhood so it makes no sense?

Why did they prescribe it in the first place though? They must have thought you needed them.

I'm on them too they are trying to take me off them though I have PTSD

Ramblingaway · 26/09/2025 23:03

What will you do when the meds run out? You would be left with horrible withdrawal symptoms. You need to ask for a second opinion.

I have been sectioned a few times and been told I’m psychotic. This psych says I am not though.

I’d follow the advice of the doctor

That’s what I’ve been doing but it’s getting worse and worse. The angels are talking to me constantly. Waking me up at night. Telling me to hurt people. Telling me to kill myself or cut my arms. Shouting when I try to do anything. Distracting me if I drive. I leave knives round the house for safety. Notes on the walls to communicate. It’s really hard on me and awful for my family I know..

I would. You have them in the house. Start taking the medication and change your psych. Go via your GP with your husband and explain the situation, and request a consultation with a different psych who is prepared to prescribe medication that keeps you, your husband and keyworkers safe.

Thank you. I went directly to the GP but they said I needed to follow the advice of the CMHT and the psychiatrist won’t prescribe them. I believe they are all having a meeting about me next week but they have asked my husband to fill in a dash risk assessment so they seem to be going down the route that I am a domestic abuser and not mentally unwell. I think they feel I am making up the angels. But they don’t see them as they’ve not been chosen to, so it’s very confusing.

This, 100%.

Take the meds and get in front of a different psych somehow.

Good luck 💐

Thank you. It’s so difficult. My husband took me to A and E a few weeks ago and the MH worker told me to go straight back on antipsychotics. A week later my psych took me back off them.

From what you’ve said @ninjahamster, the Psych’s decision seems very strange.

What does your husband think?

He absolutely thinks I should be on the medication and we had a meeting this week where he made that very clear. They then went back to MDT and called today to say the psych says no. His colleague in the team met me a few weeks ago and has agreed with him. My husband is pretty furious. Angry they won’t let people visit me at home as they say I’m a danger but leave me in a house with my family. The MH team alerted the police they were concerned about me and the police sent an ambulance yesterday.

This feels so negligent of them. I’m sorry. Have they said what PD they think you have? What would the treatment for that be? And could a PD and psychosis not co-exist??

ninjahamster · 26/09/2025 23:51

@FrondsofFriday they mostly refer to it as EUPD although I noticed in my notes it says cluster three PD and I don’t think EUPD comes under that! I was told I needed therapy which I agreed to but now they seem to be rolling back on that saying I’m not stable enough, yes, people can have PD and psychosis but he is adamant I don’t. They seem to be going down the route I’m a domestic abuser. I guess then if I hurt somebody they can treat me as a criminal not as somebody with MH issues.

Can you / your husband complain? Escalate it higher up?

We have a complaint going through PALS but that was a few months ago, so much has happened since then!

Would it be possible to ask for a second opinion from a different Psychiatrist? I know this might be hard to make happen but I'd hope it is possible

They gave me a second opinion from the other consultant in the team and he agreed with mine. So I’m stuck.

I will say prayers for you , I don't know if it works but I'll try hard

Orangesandlemons77 · 27/09/2025 06:01

I would stay in close contact with your GP updating them on how it's going. Psychosis is serious and they should be treating it as such

GimmieABreakOr3 · 27/09/2025 06:08

What’s the alternative treatment then if they won’t prescribe you the medication? They cannot leave you without treatment. Dash risk assessment doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be treating you like a domestic abuser by the way.

MissAnthr0pe · 27/09/2025 07:11

Which antipsychotic are you on? And how many tablets do you have left?

ninjahamster · 27/09/2025 09:19

Thanks everyone. So I was on olanzapine and I have about 8 boxes. I was told that I would need therapy for personality disorder. I agreed to that as it was the only option available. Now they seem to be saying I’m not stable enough for therapy.

Well, if you’re not stable enough for therapy, you need some stabilisation… therefore if they won’t prescribe you this, will they prescribe you something else OP?
