Why can’t I see my medical records?

Hello, just wondered if anyone else with a complex MH history has been subjected to the "Enhanced review indicated before granting access" code and is unable to see their GP records. Is this standard? I’ve been under CMHT had DBT for BPD (recovered). Currently in EMDR
for complex trauma (CPA/CSA/CEA) and disclosed D.A - I guess it could be safeguarding but I’m too scared to ask! What’s the likely cause reason? I can’t find
any clear guidance on how the codes are applied.

If you’d like to access your records, write to your GP and ask for a subject access request. You should receive it within 28 days. They might redact anything harmful or related to 3rd parties but they have to send you it. Please be sure you want to see it though. If you’re not feeling well it could be difficult to read.

Records can be withheld if seeing them would cause you serious harm. Did you make a formal request or were you looking on the NHS app? Ask your GP or practice manager about it.

My understanding is that for some records they need to be reviewed (and parts possibly redacted) before they are released.
In my mental health trust they are sent to the clinical managers of the relevant team/s you were open to and we have x number of days to review them.
in our trust there are a limited number of things we can redact.
This includes 3rd party information and can be small things like someone’s phone number that we don’t have permission to release to you. Or bigger things for example a family member called in with information that was recorded but could be a safeguarding issue if it is shared with you. Sometimes a case is discussed at MARAC and it could be very serious if the alleged perpetrator knew this information. another category is things that could potentially cause you significant mental distress or deterioration.
it can be the same for physical health for example if a patient is seriously ill but has stated they don’t want to know likely prognosis the surgery would be mindful not just to stick that info on the app.

The practice will have something like an information governance or access to records policy which will set out their protocols. The practice manager will advise further.
