Intrusive thoughts?

How do you cope? Especially when they involve other people?

Following with interest. I’m so sorry you suffer with these too. Mine have ramped up in intensity recently and I’m really struggling.

In the distant past talking therapy and sertraline worked really well to help me get them to a place where I wasn’t drowning.

Thanks for replying. Am on 200mg sertraline. Just don’t think it’s working anymore.
I found myself downstairs at the weekend plotting something just awful and it really scared me.

That's good – it means there's no chance of you following through with your plot.

We have at least 6,000 thoughts a day; nearly all of them repetitive and most flit in and out of our minds without us paying them any attention. Sometimes, when we're feeling low or angry, our minds will latch onto an unpleasant or scary thought and pay it undue attention.

Thoughts aren't facts – they can't hurt you and they can't harm anyone else (much as we'd like them to, according to lots of threads on here!). Next time you get one, play with it and see where it goes, knowing that it means absolutely nothing. You never know, you might be the next Agatha Christie or Stephen King (neither of whom actually killed anyone).

Thanks. I wax stopped because I couldn’t hurt my dog. However I had no feelings about hurting people. I called my MH team today. They’re going to meet to discuss me next week.
