Dd 19 has had a massive regression in skills she is adhd and autistic and n has known this a year years now.

She was working and socialising but now struggling to even leave the house without me or our dog.

I believe she has hit a second burnout The first one lasted ages but then she turned a corner and started doing things again.

Her anxiety is the main issue for her.

She already takes sertraline 100mg and propranolol when required.
Her hormones are also a huge factor in her mood and she is on birth control.

I'd really appreciate any advice or success stories as I'm feeling pretty low right now as to help her.

I'm sorry to hear this.

I also have a child with ADHD who went in to burnout during Secondary School. I don't think people realise how awful it is unless they've experienced it.

Are they medicated for their ADHD?

Do you know if there's a particular trigger for the burnout? For my DD it was the pressure of school and GCSEs. If you can change things to remove the pressure that's doing the damage - easier said than done I know.

Would she be open to therapy or counselling?

I would concentrate on a healthy routine, making sure she is eating regularly, has enough support etc. And also, learning how to stay present by improving listening skills, following through on things, resting when you need to rest etc. is also crucial. It means we have less time for getting caught up in anxious thoughts. Giving yourself a push to stay present and stay engaged with what you're doing is a big one and then rest/do something different as needs be

Thanks both.
She is currently in therapy with her trusted psychologist and is having emdr

She struggles with social interaction right now particularly in groups.

She dropped out of sixth form but was working part time and going out but after a bad experience with a birth control (the coil) and a unempathetic boss at work she left

She has improved a little. The panic attacks are lessening and she is doing her hobbies again but I worry about her getting another job or getting out if she can't get a handle on her anxiety.

I will talk to her about trying adhd meds again. She tried them before and didn't get in with them but she wasn't in a good place at all then so maybe it's worth another shot

Has anyone in here any positive stories about themselves or a relative in a similar situation. Thansk
