Am I burnt out?

I don't even know where to start. My brain is a jumbled mess of thoughts. But I will try.

•I am exhausted beyond belief but cannot sleep past 4/5 am
•I dread every day
•I feel constantly ill
•Everything irritates me or bores me but at the same time I don't feel present.
•My mind is racing
•I just want to be left alone all the time

I think I'm burnt out from being a mum. I can't see how this can ever get better

You are quite possibly depressed - certainly stressed and struggling to unwind.

I have no experience with being burnt out. However I do have depression and feel similar to that a lot of the time. Please see your GP. It's always said but it really might help. Do you have any family or friends that can help you? I would also look at taking some time off work to try and get some rest if nothing else

It could be lots if things, could be burn out, depression, hormones. You should make a Dr's appointment, make a list of all the issues your are experiencing and explain how they are impacting your life. You don't need to struggle on.

I feel just like this about 7-10 days before my period. I think it’s perimenopause starting (I’ve just turned 40 and it’s been like this for a year or two)

I should clarify, that for me, I feel like when the hormones are shifting and I’m stressed/can’t cope etc, it just feels worse. So a sort of burn out exacerbated by hormonal drops I think

This was me about 18 months ago. For me; it was the combination of many things finally reaching a head - COVID, new job, moved house, made a very big financial decision that felt very stressful, unplanned third baby, another child diagnosed with SEN, issues from my childhood playing more on my mind….

When I found myself thinking things like ‘I wish I could be really ill, so I could not work for a bit, not have to deal with the kids, will have a long hospital stay to sleep and be looked after’, I knew something had to change.

I ended up doing some quite intensive therapy and found myself with a diagnosis of ADHD, which I now take medication for.

My life has improved so much for the better. Listen to what your brain and body are telling you.

Thank you for your replies.

I have struggled with low mood for most of my life. I have been very depressed before and whilst there are some similarities now this does feel different to that time.
I have been taking sertraline for a few years now and it does help a little.

@Borracha I can relate to a lot of what you've said in your post. I had to have a procedure earlier this year which could have been serious.. i was fine but I felt deflated as I was hoping for something to be seriously wrong. That isn't right is it.
My DS is awaiting assessment for ADHD and I'm considering asking for one myself as I recognise many of the symptoms in myself
