Struggling with Medication increase

Hi,
I have struggled with my MH for a long time. Have been on various ADs off and on, mainly on for over 10 years. After a recent spell off of medication I have started escitalopram.

I started off on 5mg and it was great. Felt so much better really quickly. After about 6 weeks everything fell apart and I was really bad again.

I have recently increased to 10mg and I am really struggling. Exhausted, feeling despair and hopelessness, increased anxiety causing difficulty eating etc.

Just wondered if anyone is in a similar place and wanted to talk on here for support?

Logically I know I have been here before and will get through this, but that is so hard to see right now.

I’m on 20mg escitalopram and it is a rough one, been on sertraline, citalopram and fluoxetine in the past but starting this one my anxiety was at another level to all those ! It did settle down though, I had to have diazepam the first week because I was that bad, is this an option for you ? I’m now considering going down to 10mg because my sex drive is none existent which makes me sad. But my ocd and anxiety are very well controlled on it.

@theclampits thank you for the reply.

I have also been on sertraline and fluoxetine and struggled with side effects with them too.

I have been prescribed propranolol and diazapam to help, I don't find the propranolol useful but have been taking the diazapam. I am probably not taking them often enough though as I am scared of becoming addicted and also that they will make me even more exhausted.

Glad to hear it settled down for you, hopefully I will begin to see an improvement. It is good that your anxiety and ocd are better with the medication.

If you do decide to decrease your dose I hope that works out for you.
