So ive had a letter ( hand delivered) from a debt agentcy called "JACOBS...
I've had no previous notice/ letters before this ,,
Letter says I owe some council tax ,? Which i was unaware of , .. and the dates say I owe from a 2019 bill..
Says they will enforce action if I don't pay in full & remove items i own if not paid....

I'm really worried and would really appreciate any help if anyone else has had similar..
They can't force entry can they?
Letter is big Red writing , and says they have a liability order, ..
Which as said I knew nothing about it,,
Any help & advice would me really appreciated....

I also have a long lasting hearh condition and as such h i have doctors letters and sick note as I'm not fit to work ..

Thankyou for reading , hope I can get some advice if possible..
Much love to all you super moms xx

Hi, OP.

Please don't get yourself into a panic. It's very unlikely they'll do anything provided it's a genuine debt which you take action to rectify.

I would contact the Council first and verify the authenticity of the debt/collection agency. They should be able to confirm it.

If not, throw the letter in the bin and do not understand any circumstances allow them into your home. If they do try anything and they're a fraudulent operation, call the police.

Please take some deep breaths and don't worry. I've had exactly the same happen to me. Firstly, make sure it's genuine. Secondly, call the number of the debt collector and leave message saying you'd like to pay it back in installments. The request for the full amount is to scare you and he'll actually find a repayment amount for you to agree to monthly.

Better to email and keep a record then to call . Plus they will always try to scare you into paying it all over the phone

I have had dealings with Jacobs and they are awful. See if it possible to deal with the council directly concerning this.

Just know everything works out in the end

Contact the council directly and find out whether it's genuine and they will sort you a plan to pay it back. Likely, they'll just increase the amount you're paying now until its paid off.

I couldn't pay mine for a couple of months while I was between jobs and they just adjusted the amount I was paying after that, so that I didn't fall too far behind. They're pretty helpful as long as you're proactive and make the effort to contact them rather than ignoring it.
