Trazodone would you take it if you don't suffer from insomnia

I had been on Escitalopram for 15 years, all good for anxiety/depression. Lately, I have been trying to lose weight but finding it hard with the carbohydrate cravings of Escitalopram. So decided to come off and try something else. This has been pretty difficult I have tried Prozac (affect my bowels), Sertraline, no help at all and now Venlafaxine started 75mg - after 6 weeks no side effects but no real help either so I moved up to 150mg SR and have felt awful for 7 days. Went to the GP today who suggested Trazodone she said it's good for insomnia as well. I explained that I don't have insomnia but she said it was worth a try. Everything I have read about it points towards being antidepressant that only has this benefit on higher doses and that primarily it is given to people who have anxious insomnia. She said it does not put weight on people but I have read quite a few people who have had this side effect.
I certainly don't need to be put to sleep and need to be easily woken as I have 3 young kids. I don't want to feel sleepy. Would you try it or else I'm thinking of returning to Escitalopram. What do you think? What is your experience? Thank you for reading

I am taking trazodone long term for depression and it works well for me as an antidepressant.

When I first started I took 50mg and it sent me to sleep within half an hour. I didn't feel groggy the next day, but I'm not sure how easily I would have woken up if needed.

I went up the doses and was at 400mg at my highest, it didn't knock me out the same way but it did leave me feeling very sluggish and unmotivated the next day.

Have you asked your GP for a referral to a psychiatrist? I think it's after 3 antidepressants have been unsuccessful that is the criteria for referral.
