Has anyone come across this type of behaviour? What could it indicate?

Someone who seems to change their personality all the time. E.g, at one time they can’t have sex without a connection, but months later they want to do swinging?

Impulsive, strange behaviour. Doing things repeatedly that bring trouble to their door and not learning from their mistakes.

Magical thinking and lashing out at random other people when they aren’t happy.

It indicates that you should have nothing to do with them. Don’t waste time trying to understand and make sense of their bad behaviour.

Bipolar not under control

Petrie999 · 14/05/2025 22:24

Personality disorder. Most likely an unstable sense of self and a need for external validation. Sounds like borderline to me

Whiteflowerscreed · 14/05/2025 22:24

bi polar or borderline personality disorder

IShouldNotCoco · 15/05/2025 00:21

Yeah these are the things that occurred to me as well.

Could be an alcoholic or drug addict, traumatised, have a personality disorder or a mental illness. They could also be acting out for some reason.

Thanks for replies. It’s a family member.

One other thing that I forgot that is so weird;

They have no empathy for people closest to them but fawn around people they barely know with comments such as ‘I’m so sorry this happened to you’

Sounds like narcissistic personality disorder. With a touch of BPD maybe?
Either way they sound very unpleasant to be around and I would stay away from them.

I’m not sure what the purpose of your post is - collusion with your wild speculation maybe? If you want to help a family member try and steer them towards professional help. IIf you don’t like their behaviour then swerve them. As someone with one of the conditions being banded around on this thread, the tone and approach here is fucking offensive.

I am allowed to speculate - if you don’t like it, don’t click on threads that upset you.

People who have these conditions affect everyone around them - I am allowed to find that difficult without people like you being aggressive.

OP has every right to seek help from a forum and should not have to put up with continued distressing behaviour of her family member.

It can take up to 10 years for a qualified health professional to diagnose bipolar correctly…. So I don’t think a couple of lines about someone’s sexual activity and weird behaviour should lead to speculations about serious, complicated and challenging medical conditions. It’s funny how sympathy for disabilities flies out of the window. By all means bitch away about behaviour and come up with helpful solutions.

I have disabilities, myself. It is not an excuse for bad behaviour. It is also easier for me to cope with if I can understand what may be driving it.
