thank God for ADs, know they're controversial, but they're working for me!

self-managed for yrs, st john's wort etc and finally turned to ads (citalopram) and I think it's working! Hope i'm not speaking too soon (2 1/2 weeks) but I@m so grateful. My black cloud now merely hovers and then abates, I actually feel postive much of the time, i'm seeing things in perspective... Of course the weather etc helps but the pills have too. Just wanted to share the good as well as the bad times (which i've often inflicted on Mners.. ). Hope this may encourage and help someone else.

Absolutely encouraging. I'm glad you're feeling good - I have been too up until last couple of days and now I can feel a slipping back sensation . I'm trying to talk myself through it knowing that i've done it before so I can get back to the sunshine again. Can I ask you a question? How much SJW did you take each day and do you think it worked at all? I had a bad reaction to sertraline and i'm scared to take another ad but not really into the thought of continuosly dragging myself back? It's great news they're working for you though - bring on the sunshine!

I didn't mean too up - I meant up too! Big difference!

MissChief · 19/05/2008 20:41

thanks! Sorry it didn't work for you. I'm not discounting sjw, I think it has worked for me in the past with mild depresison but i htink i was just way too low this time and it had no effect. I was on the max dose (don't remember now, but was tincture as meant to be more effective). Could you look to getting another ad? I believe they are quite different. maybe one can work for you?
I hope you find something anway.

Anti depressants do work for some people, I'm glad that they are working for you.

I took anti depressants for 18 months. I have been free of medication for four years now. I did very well with sertaline, but I think that its very individual work works for someone.

MissChief, I totally agree with you about ADs being a good thing. I also take citalopram, and it really does help me.

MissChief · 19/05/2008 20:42

meant to say, I know what you mean about slipping sensation but at least you're aware of it, that's positive in itself. I wasn't and plunged down, hard to get back then. But in the past, sjw, exercise, talking, fun stuff has brought me back from the brink.

sorry, that was to artydeb. Glad they're working for you too, idristhedragon (great name). How long have you been in citalopram and have you had any side=effects? I find they make me rather hyper (mainly in a good way tho insomnia not so great)

I've been taking it since September - when I started taking it I was nauseous, but that didn't last for long. Haven't really had insomnia (in fact, have found that ADs have helped to stop it).

MissChief · 19/05/2008 20:48

oh yes, i was fairly nauseous and still feel a little bit so right after tkaing it. Appetite weird too, either (mainly) not that hungry for much of the day but then have ravenous times too
