At a loss

My brother's mental health is really concerning me. He's a grown man so I'm aware there's not a lot I can do, but he's smoking and drinking himself into oblivion. He recently asked me a question about suicide which of course terrified me because why is that on his brain? He's had a psychotic break before and didn't get any kind of aftercare after. I can see he's either about to have another one or it's going to end in suicide. What can I do? I can't just get him sectioned can I? I'm so worried. Any advice would be great, thank you.

Sorry to hear this. It must be really worrying @Soitis83

What does your brother say about his MH?

You could call your local crisis team if you think he’s at risk of suicide. Or you can contact his GP - I did this for someone once (twice actually- same person). The GP
surgery were brilliant, reassured me that they would check in on the person.

He doesn't think anything is wrong. Doesn't think his drinking and smoking is a problem even though he visibly shakes without a drink and he isn't coherent a lot of the time. It's so hard to help someone who doesn't want the help

I don’t think there is much you can do if someone doesn’t see they need help. I would call his GP surgery and let them know you’re worried. I think that’s all you can do.
