PTSD help

Hi, without going into too much detail, it’s pretty obvious I need some counselling for the abuse I suffered by the hands of my ex.
Ive spent hours looking for counselling that is actually free!
I work part time (all I can do as my DD’s nursery only had two days available, no family close by to help) so don’t earn a lot, especially when you take childcare out of it!
OH earns quite a bit, but this means that I’m not eligible for any financial help to get counselling/benefits. They either want £45 a week or £65/75 a week. Despite my DP earning a nice wage I can assure you we don’t have £4.50 left a week, let alone £45! (We don’t smoke or drink, can’t even afford to go on a uk holiday this year, don’t have the latest phone, no sky packages, cars on their last legs, no takeaways. So certainly not living a luxury lifestyle)
my question is- are there any counselling services out there that are actually free? Without going to the doctors and being put on a waiting list for years.
I appreciate there’s some services that you can text 24/7, but they seem to be for people who are in a crisis situation. Don’t feel I need that, just someone professional to talk to on a weekly basis. I’m in the York area if that helps. Thank you ☺️

I don't know about your area but I'm in S/E and theirs several free charitys that do counselling. I used talking therapy for my PTSD but the wait was about 6 months, I looked at privately but didn't want face to face appointments of evenings so the wait was about 5 months so decided to just stick with TT. I've now finished and it worked for me, I'm still on medication (prescribed by doctors) and still have the odd nightmare/flashbacks but I know how to deal with it. Your doctor would be able to sign post you in right direction, and might even suggest medication.

If you have PTSD you can access free emdr on the NHS regardless of how much you earn. The only issue is that you have to really push for it and it does take a long time. Where I am, you can access it via the self referral mental health portal.

Thank you for this.

Who diagnosed your ptsd? Can they not help?
