Please be gentle..
Has anyone got any words of advice for starting counseling for childhood trauma please?

I'm worried I'm going to trauma dump big time on whoever my counsellor is.

I'm worried I don't know where to begin because I have so much to get off my chest and it's a very complex life story...

I'm worried I won't be able to speak for crying..

Amy words of wisdom?

If you're going to trauma dump then surely the best person to do that to is someone who is specifically trained to help you through this?

If you don't know where to start you could just say "I don't know where to start" and let them guide you. Or maybe make some notes beforehand and then hand them over.

If you cry you won't be the first person to have cried during counselling. It wouldn't surprise me at all if most people who are having counselling for something traumatic have cried on multiple occasions during the sessions. It's not a problem.

Above all else, what have you got to lose? If it helps then it helps. If it doesn't you won't be any worse off and it could just be that that wasn't the right counsellor for you. Give it a go. I've found counselling immensely helpful for several difficult situations in my life.
