Anyone know what happens now? Been ten days since the assessment.

Spoke to the AMHP today who did the assessment and he said they have two weeks from sectioning to admitting into hospital.

So I think they are being a bit misleading there. They have 2 weeks after the doctor has made the recommendation in which they can complete the paperwork and admit someone to hospital under a section 2 - but until that paperwork is completed with the hospital named and the person admitted the person is NOT under a section 2. Section 2 starts from the date of admission to hospital for assessment (and lasts a maximum of 28 days) it's not tied to date of recommendation.

They could request another assessment if the 14 days run out, although it might be more difficult to get 2 doctors to recommend compulsory admission if the person doesn't want to go into hospital and you've just demonstrated they can be cared for at home for 2 weeks.

Yes I’m 100% certain they are detained on a section 2. No beds available for admission.

The paperwork will say where he has been detained to… I don’t think they can write ‘home’. Have you seen the paperwork?

Sorry I just caught up with all the replies. I think that they’ve made a recommendation for section 2

They are now in a secure unit. Thanks everyone for the input.

Im glad it was resolved and I hope they get better soon. I guess PICU and secure beds are less common than general beds but this does also imply that there would be risk in staying at home if such a bed was needed. I would suggest you consider a complaint to the MH trust as this clearly was a bad situation that is not supposed to happen and suggests they need to change their policies and/ or commission more beds.
