Hi

I posted here a few days ago regarding anxiety and panic attacks. I spoke to the doctor and they have prescribed me 30mg. I've read reviews and they sound horrific!!!! Does anybody have any personal stories on these?

My experience was 100% negative.

Spaced out/totally numb
No physical feeling whatsoever. I couldn't even feel it when I pinched myself or stuck pins in my arms, on purpose to test the lack of feeling
Reduced urination, resulting in the total loss of being able to pee, which resulted in being admitted to hospital

Never again!!

But, not everyone will experience the same side effects. I will add that I am particularly sensitive to a lot of medication.

Edited - typo

I tapered off Venlafaxine that I'd been on for years and hated, on to Duloxetine - much easier on the system. For me anyway. I'm on 120mg daily.

I don't know what to say but after the hell that was Venlafaxine it's been lovely!

Panickyperson1 · 04/04/2025 16:04

Thank you I'm so worried about taking them. The side effects look horrible. Can I ask for a different one from the GP? Or will they refuse? I've been researching about tramazdone and I think I'd like that but the doctor was quite dismissive

I've never heard of that one!

I guess all antidepressants come with a long list of frightening looking side effects.

Is this your first antidepressant?
30 is a lowest dose I think.

I don't know what to say really. People react differently to things don't they?

Sorry, that's not much help!

JustFrustrated · 05/04/2025 00:21

Duloxotine is quite good. .. my worst side effects at 150mg were night sweats .

If this is your first rodeo with antidepressants Im quite surprised they went straight to atypical. I wouldn't recommend going to trazadone over duloxotine. Duloxotine is better for depression and anxiety, trazadone is mainly an antidepressant.

Venlafaxine as per PP is horrific.

Have you tried both? What makes you say your surprised? Is it too strong?!

I'm on Duloxetine for urge incontinence.. also for Fibromyalgia.. but l understand it helps with anxiety and depression too.
But I'm also on Sertraline for that.
Never had side effects.. but you can't ask anyone else because what works for one doesn't work for another.. we have different chemicals in our bodies.
( I did like Trazadone but switched after 3 years and it stopped working).

DoNoTakeNo · 07/04/2025 21:03

Duloxetine made me incredibly angry - after a few weeks of that I changed to sertraline; which really did the trick.
Good luck @Panickyperson1 you will find one that suits you.

Panickyperson1 · 07/04/2025 21:52

I've never been on one. I'm not depressed at all though I'm just an anxious person haha

I take duloxetine and for me, its great. No side effects whatsoever from use, just positive uplift in mood, capability and reduced anxiety.

The only side effects I get are from sudden withdrawal eg, if I forget them 3 or 4 days in a row and then it's just I get really emotional and have bad dreams. As soon as I realise and take the next dose, those symptoms pass.

I have several health conditions and as a rule never read the side effects before taking tablets, they're all scary when you look at them!

Thank you. I suppose if I get side effects they will wear off right haha

I take it for my FND and the first 3 weeks were hell, couldn’t stay awake, depth perception was wonky and felt nauseous even with anti emetics. But now it feels like everything is dialled down a notch and I’m settled on them 🤞🏻 I’m regimented in taking them with food first thing and in an hours window so I don’t get withdrawal

Usually, yes. I've taken a few different types of anti depressant in the past and with some of them have experienced common side effects that lasted for a couple of weeks, with another I experienced some of the rarer side effects and had to come off them but it wasn't as if my world came crashing down to the symptoms.

Without sounding like a nutter, I love duloextine its saved my life and I find it a really easy experience.

Marcipix · 07/04/2025 22:20

I take Duloxetine for nerve pain and it’s very helpful.
th only side effect I experience is tooth grinding at night. Be aware of that because you might need a dental guard.
it’s only a pill. If it doesn’t work for you, just stop them.
I massively overreact to many drugs, to the exasperation of my gp but I’m okay with duloxetine.

Gaslitbygynae · 07/04/2025 22:25

Duloxetine helped me enormously. I don’t really think I experienced side effects - apart from that I had to wean off sertraline to go on it (dreadful!). I take 120mg - probably a dry mouth is the lasting thing?! But tbf that could be from any number of things.

but please be aware OP all drugs come with a horrific list of side effects, yes some worse than others. And if you google most prescribed drugs, you’ll get people saying it was the worst/best ever. not everyone experiences side effects - everyone’s body and metabolism and reactions are different. For me, the ‘effects’ of living with out of control PND and anxiety was far far far worse than any drug side effects I’ve experienced. Good luck and I hope things start to feel better soon.
