My BDD focused on my 2 front teeth started in 1988(!) when I begged a dentist to file them down as I thought they were too long. Regretted it (cosmetically plus they became sensitive), had composite bonding put on to relengthen, didn't work, got it removed. Over the years I've been over protective of them, not wanting to lose any more enamel, not biting with them, severely dysmorphic - if I accidentally bang one of them I'm straight at the mirror to analyze if the tooth looks shorter, flatter, scratched etc
Yesterday I was at ENT (not for teeth related issue) and mentioned a swelling on my gum line behind front tooth. He said he'd have a look, got a wooden stick/spatula and lifted my top lip and prodded roughly around the front (he obviously forgot I said the back). I came out of the appointment furious with myself for even mentioning the gum as then he wouldn't have prodded around my upper teeth. Now utterly convinced my front teeth will now appear different every time I look in the mirror (shorter and flatter) because of his gum inspection with the spatula.
Please someone help me to see sense here, surely a spatula can't damage teeth?
