Does anyone who has had this and been treated with Sertraline know how long it takes to work?Been on it 12 days now and after the initial sedating effects dont feel any better.Very anxious and repeated thoughts really making me depressed.Just want my life back.Have took Sertraline before mainly for depression rather than ocd and did seem to feel the effects a lot sooner .

Just feeling for you mumtobe2 and don't want your thread to be ignored. I don't have any experience of Sertraline myself but know that they tend to say "2 or 3 weeks" for ADs so perhaps you just need to hang in there? or go back to your GP?

hopefully someone with experience will be along soon.

in the meantime, I found this thread on PND quite helpful. It covers more anxiety and depression than OCD but I hope it makes you feel not alone.

Hi, i have sent you a message with your other thread with regards sertraline. It can take up to 6 weeks but is usually 2-3 wks.

Sometimes (if its a different reason/depression) then the medication that you have used in the past will not work this time and can (in certain cases) enhance the symptoms you were taking it for.

Please be careful with sertraline.

You say its postpartum OCD (had it myself) but did get over it i became obsessed with bottles, steralisation, cot death, cotton wool. but as the hormones settled down so did the OCD, just have mini O's now.

hope this helps a little

I had antenatal OCD and ended up on Prozac at 30 weeks PG. I would say it took longer than 12 days for me to feel noticeably better, and it took 2 months for me to feel lots better. HTH.

Yes TotalChaos I had it antenatally too but did nothing about it.Just put it down to the anxiety of the up and coming birth and thought it would subsibe after that.Only had it very late in the pregnancy though.Sue1911 at the moment i do feel it is making me worse but keep hanging on as isnt that meant to happen?Thought i read that.I wasnt really depressed only the ocd repetive thoughts were really getting me down and felt I had got things "out of focus".Sorry these messages back to front.

After my son was born - I washed my hands till they bleed - often! I was so worried about the germs! It was short lived - it is alot to take on after baby is born and we try to protect ourselves in the rituals we know. I was fine when dd was born - I knew the roops! Hope things are brighter for you.
