Family Support Limited

My mother and sister are very unsupportive because while I was pregnant, they expected me to call them all the time with my progress (with no call in return). They can not understand why I have not been able to attend birthday parties/dinners with a screaming newborn baby, and have not forgotten even though my eldest is now two. I have tried talking to them to explain, but I have been told that these are my problems. I find it very hard looking after two kids, battling post natal for the second time, and trying to deal with self-centred family members. My sister doesn't have kids yet.

I'm sorry to hear this CopingJust.

I think we expect our family to understand us a bit more than the rest of the world and when they don't it's very disappointing and hurtful.

I don't think there's an easy solution for this, I think as time goes on and hopefully you find the post natal getting a bit easier you'll feel stronger in yourself and will be able to deal with your (selfish!)mum and sister.

In the meantime is your health visitor or maybe a sympathetic doctor any good? Maybe just a chat to pour out your feelings would help,or a good old moan with your partner!

I'm sorry I don't have any good advice, just wanted to send you hugs!{{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Thank you very much for your advice and support - especially the hugs!! I do have some supportive people in my life, and a great doctor which does help. I'm taking each day as it comes - thanks again.
It's really nice to know that that there is support - even if it's a half a world away (I'm in Australia).
