I’ve got myself in a massive tizz

My life has been going really well lately. Things are good. However, I’m sabotaging it.

I’ve an interview later this week, and another important event on in my life. So, what happens? I’ve had ZERO sleep for the past 2 nights. Zero
due to overthinking and worrying about the events.

Now I’m in a massive anxiety fest. My sleep is usually brilliant, but every now and again I get insomnia and it can last for days and days.

I’m meant to be going to work, meeting a friend later, got an interview and a really important event later in the week. I feel like I’m going to let everyone down.

I’m overwhelmed with anxiety and stress now due to lack of sleep. I just need to sleep.

Any suggestions?

Can you take a day off work and reschedule your friend to try and get some sleep somewhere today?

INeedNewShoes · 11/03/2025 07:00

If you usually get plenty of good quality sleep then you'll have enough in the bank that you can cope with two nights of no sleep.

I'd try to get rid of some nervous energy. I'd do it by going for a decent length brisk walk.

Rather than focusing on the lack of sleep I'd focus on the things you can control like eating well. Meet your friend - a good chat will likely help. You could try a bath in Epsom salts this evening.

I’m exactly the same when anxious and stressed..I usually take a Nytol (from the chemist) to break the cycle ..everything feels easier and more manageable on a good night’s sleep doesn’t it?

Sadsadworld · 11/03/2025 07:12

You will be fine for the interview, a little adrenaline will power you through. I second both lots of advice above, try and get a walk/exercise in and then do the boring basic sleep hygiene stuff tonight, postpone your friend if you can.

Herbal nytol before bed.

Yes it does.

I’ve gone from feeling the best version of myself for decades, to on the floor in a mess in 2 days just because of no sleep.

I’m never off sick and hate being so, but I just can’t function.

I’m going to go to the chemist and see if there is anything I can get to calm me down a bit and try get some sleep. It’s my anxiety and heartbeat keeping me awake.

I’ve got some propranolol, but will they keep me awake? They’ll slow my heart a bit.

I am my own worst enemy.

Try yoga nidra .. you just have to lie down with your eyes closed - Ali Boothroyd is a good one but there's loads on YouTube

Hi OP, you can take some drowsy antihistamines called sleep ease. I take these about 9pm when I’m struggling then have a hot shower, read a book. You’ll be asleep at about ten.

They’re really good for a reset.

Propranolol won’t keep you awake, in my experience.

Sometimes it helps to try and work out what your subconscious is trying to protect you from. I was a big self saboteur until I realized it was my childhood brain trying to keep me safe

I think I would prioritise the interview

Have a day off work, exaggerate everything saying you’re not functioning, overwhelmed, feel nauseous and need a GP appointment (even if you don’t go to the GP)

Postpone your friend

Monitor thought processes…are they rational thoughts or are you fearing something which isn’t going to happen? Don’t worry about letting others down, what can you do to not let yourself down? What’s most important? (Some people find journaling useful to really examine those thoughts - every thought has a feeling)

wishing you the best 💐

I just want to say thank you to everyone.

I bought some Boots Sleepeazy and I did get a good nights sleep. Thanks Bountiful.

I’ll take it again tonight, and hopefully I’ll get back on track. I’ve a big day on Sunday and I now just want it out the way and stop thinking about it.

Yesterday I bought some CBD oil with Ashwangantha from H&B. It cost an arm and a leg but I spent a very pleasant few hours afterwards feeling suuuuppppperrrr chilled. I couldn’t believe it 😂
