tried it twice and it has not helped me

Had CBT for severe post natal 1-1 with Clinical Psychologist 18 years ago that was life changing.

Tried again for something else and all they could offer was group CBT or online. Tried once and the therapist was hopeless, and just irritated me into trying to fix myself.

Mood Gym was writer good, as was the social prescriber at my GPs.

Is it CBT then, I have done that before

CBT was pointless. Actual therapy was one of the best decisions I even made. It depends very much on the therapist you choose and being willing to do the work. It's an active process, nor something that is done to you. 80% of the hard work is yours.

Sorry I should explain I'm talking about the NHS "Talking therapies' service, think it used to be called IAPT or something.

You will need to see what your NHS Trust offers, it's not so useful to ask here as every area is different. My sister in a different area has been offered completely different services to be. It's also based on an initial assessment, so you will be offered what is relevant for you which may be different than others' on here's experiences

They seem to be quickly training up any idiot to do cbt and talking therapies. Last time I referred myself for cbt I was taken through the questionnaire, thinking that the person was an admin person, not a therapist. Well she wasn't - she was a bored-sounding twenty something and I was a 50 year old with problems that she wouldn't have had a clue about. It left me feeling so awful and I find that very concerning because if someone was in a bad way this sort of thing could tip them over the edge.

Sorry for my rant!

Same as PP, the young lady who was told to give me CBT (which I've had before but not suitable for my PTSD) which I wasn't asking for (wanted psychotherapy) actually told me off and told me I wasn't putting any effort in because I said I could not drive to see her face to face - I had explained I couldn't leave the house due to extreme panic attacks. I waited over a year for the referral and couldn't do more than 2 sessions. I'm not closer to healing than I was over a year ago with my PTSD.
