Hi all,

Started mirtazipine yesterday and so far so good but I'm a bit worried as the doctor said it's to do direct switch (30mg citalopram) to 15mg mirtazipine. I've since read it should be a tapered switch. Really don't want to mess myself up as I've had a rough time with anxiety lately. Has anyone had similar? Can anyone advise????

This is something that you need to discuss with your doctor rather than the Internet, as no one here knows your medical history etc.
For what it is worth, mirtazapine can often be taken along side citalopram, so it would be worth contacting your GP again on Monday to see if that is something you could do.

I am doing this the other way around. Before Christmas, I changed from Escitalopram to Mirt, and did a cross-taper; half a dose of Esc, in the morning and then 15mg of Mirt in the evening for two weeks, then completely on Mirt.

@dunant173 thanks for that, going to message my GP just to make sure I keep things in check. So did you move up on mirtazapine or stay at 15mg and take the other med out eventually?

Sorry just saw you said completely on Mirt.

How have you found it? I find the sleep I get on it so weird, like a really light sleep that I keep waking up from

I stayed on 15mg for a few weeks but it wasn't doing my anxiety any good (great sleep though) so moved up to 30mg. Unfortunately, it didn't suit me so that is why I am going to Citalopram. It's a bit of a minefield, isn't it?!

Mirtazapine is fantastic for sleep. I struggle with insomnia and as soon as I started taking it, I started sleeping brilliantly. I did get quite vivid dreams, not necessarily nightmares though. Just vivid dreams that I cannot quite remember. It is a shame that I didn't get on with it otherwise as it's been wonderful to sleep so well.
