On highest dose of ADs but can't stop crying. Everything is getting on top of me. I'm snappy with DH, he can't cope with all my tears so I bottle them up which makes me feel worse. Help.

I’m really sorry to hear this ❤️ how long have you been on the highest dose? Are you getting any therapy etc? Made any changes to your circumstances, for the better or worse?

How long have you been on meds? They can take a while to work so if you've only just upped the dose it might be a few weeks before you see the benefit.

If you've been on this dose for a while and they're not working you may need a different type of medication. There are ADs and ADs - one type will not work for everybody. It's frustrating but it can take numerous GP visits and several different prescriptions before landing in the one that helps your type of depression.

Do you at least have a support network? Any friends or family other than your DH who are aware you are struggling?

I don't think I am depressed, I am more angry than anything else. I feel like I wasn't given a chance in life by my parents or society. Sometimes I feel like I'm not well enough to keep living. And I have the thought there is no God because they wouldn't allow us to suffer. And it scares me.

Having said all that there have been times I have been really deep in depression for years and I found that once I took myself out of some bad situations and got on good medication for a while my brain seemed to heal from that illness

Are there things really wrong in your life or is it just chemical ?

Been on ADs since DC were born 21 years ago!. I had post natal depression.and every time Dr has tried to wean me off I have plummeted downhill. I feel so invisible and on my own with it all. DH wrapped up with work. So very depressed

You should see a psychiatrist they are just better at treating these things

Georgeismydog · 24/01/2025 20:23

How do l get to see one?

In the NHS, a GP has to refer you to them. They will only do it if they believe you are in serious circumstances

Otherwise it costs about £300 to see one for an initial appointment. But once you're on medication you can just have it repeated without a lot of extra appointments and either pay the much lower prescription fee or get them to ask the NHS to prescribe it
