Mania?

After all I’ve been through - anxiety, depression, psychosis, multiple sections, agoraphobia so severe I don’t leave the house, OCD, panic attacks etc, my family are now saying I am manic. I feel so happy, I keep singing, my dog spoke to me, I find humour in things others don’t (like our tree fell down and destroyed our neighbour’s garden which is awful really but I laughed uncontrollably). I feel fine and then I just feel like my brain fizzes and I feel so so happy!
Anyone had mania? I saw my care coordinator this week and she raised concern about me being “high”. I’ve not changed meds, I’m taking regularly.
Bit I feel good. And I like it!

No I’m quite pleased not to see him because we have a real personality clash.

Ok, sorry I misjudged the situation.
Why are you changing your medication though when there is the risk it could make you worse?

i researched the medications I was on as last time I saw my psych he said he felt medication wasn’t really the way forward and I should go down a therapeutic route.
I found that lamotrigine is usually given to those with bipolar and I don’t have that. So I decided to reduce it. I told my CC and she’s not really said much about it.

OP, I say this gently, you are displaying quite a few bipolar traits. How long have you been on Steraline? It's well know to trigger episodes. Many people, including myself, got diagnosed with bipolar after taking it. It doesn't show immediately, it can take months, by which stage you are in the full swing of rapid cycling.
To share my experience, I started Stertaline in April '22 for what the GP assumed was PTSD and GAD. By end of August I was showing signs of mania. By November I had a road traffic incident, nearly got sacked from my job, spent a chunk of my savings, nursery called social services because I was acting odd at pick up, also my partner nearly left me because manic me wouldn't take anything on board and depressed psychotic me wouldn't leave the bedroom for days. Once I was fully weaned off SSRIs and on Lamotrigine I turned a corner massively. But the drug did make me groggy and dull my intelligence for months until I got used to it.
Push to get properly reassessed, give your partner permission to step in and advocate for you. This current state will likely worsen as every high comes with crashing low. Good luck, you can get through this.

I’ve been in it for about 10 years. So I don’t think I have bipolar that’s why I’m coming off the mood stabiliser, I don’t need it.My husband doesn’t know I’m coming off it.

i really think I can manage without medications. I think they are numbing me and drugging me. I don’t trust the CMHT and think they are just experimenting on me.

And that is a classic symptom.

You need to contact the crisis team.

Scutterbug · 23/01/2025 12:11

I have told my team I’m reducing it to come off it so they are aware. My care coordinator said she would call me this week but she hasn’t yet.

Why don’t you tell your husband and explain your reasoning to see if he agrees? You can trust him and he knows you better than anyone else

Scutterbug · 23/01/2025 12:50

I thought I’d tell him once I’m off them totally, save him stressing.

That’s concerning @Scutterbug

Scutterbug · 23/01/2025 14:08

He always notices if I am ill so please don’t worry. I’m actually feeling pretty good, I think I’d mistaken mania for just being happy for the first time in ages!

I hope you are right but in that case what is the harm in telling him that you are reducing your medication? He can give you a different perspective on your behaviour if that’s needed.

Scutterbug · 23/01/2025 15:36

I have just told him, he was fine about it.

I have messaged my care coordinator so they know I’m going to reduce again this weekend.

I don’t really understand what your post means but I’ve no idea why I was ever put on it.

Well I’ve tried to get hold of my care coordinator but she isn’t getting back to me! I wanted to know when I could do the next reduction but no response. I think I’ll reduce again at the weekend.
