Feel immense dread every morning

Hi all,

Looking for some advice. For the last few months, I wake most mornings with an intense feeling of dread, which sometimes morphs into anxiety as the morning goes on.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm assuming it's a mental health issue, but at the same time wondering if there could be a physical issue?

Cheers

I know this sounds glib, but the perimenopause made me anxious for about ten years. So if there is any chance this is it, get it sorted as I wasted a lot of time on SSRIs when I could have just had HRT.

It's completely normal! Called the cortisol awakening response it's the surge of the 'anxiety' (or get moving!) hormone that peaks first thing in the morning and gradually subsides to nothing by the time you go to bed.

Unless there's something going on in your life that's worrying you, you can safely ignore it - which will stop it happening.

It's common and not abnormal but it's bloody horrible too!. Mine was dreadful before HRT.

I should add I'm a guy btw, so no perimenopause possibility

Ah, that does make a difference! It might be worth looking at anemia and vitamin deficiency as some of these can also cause anxiety. If not, the very boring regime of yoga and walking outside every day might help. (I say this as someone who is always trying to do this and only sporadically succeeding).
