My daughter has suffered with anxiety for a few years but recently over the last 3/4 months it's taking over her life . She's having massive mood swings happy one day the next crushing anxiety where she can't function . She's got a wonderful boyfriend but due to sickness she is on triggers with the Bradford factor .
Work have been great and have offered her counselling etc and they are referring her to OHS . It's affecting her stomach she's getting chronic pains which have been investigated and thankfully all clear .
She's on 10mg of escitalopram and 80mg of propanol daily . She's awaiting nhs counselling but that could take months . Has anyone experienced this type of high low anxiety

I don’t have much experience but does she have a psychiatrist? I had highs and lows and was given a mood stabiliser which evened things out. Might be worth asking about?

No she doesn't have a psychiatrist. They are referring her for talking therapies they've not mentioned any drugs to help . Did the mood stabilisers help you

Could you afford to pay for therapy for her? If you could I’d do that.

Yes we can afford and I think that's gonna be our next option as it needs addressing asap

That’s the road to take them.NHS services are overstretched and can be time limited and more a checkbox exercise. Therapy has changed my life, hope she finds someone good that she clicks with and you all find some peace

What sort of therapy worked for you please ?

Talking therapy: I guess personal centred to give it a label, it’s quite proactive. I also did REBT for a specific anxiety I’d developed after trauma, and that worked really well and very quickly, just six sessions

Most therapists will have a first meeting to see if you gel with them.

That's what she's self referred for but it's gonna be April they've told her today plus after seeing GP yesterday he's sending her to the mental health team . In the meantime we are paying for her to see a councillor privately

I have had long-term open-ended integrative and then psychodynamic therapy (had to change therapists from first to second for logistical reasons) and together they were amazing for addressing my anxiety. I think it's probably much more about the relationship between the therapist and the client than it is about the type of therapy practised.

Yes definitely

If you can, pay for private therapy for her. It can make a big difference in a relatively short time, especially when struggling like your daughter seems to be.
