Is death anxiety a symptom

Hi,

I'm suffering from awful death and health anxiety and am getting suicidal thoughts. I am 19 months postmenopausal.
Is this a menopause symptom anybody? And did it ever pass?

Increase in anxiety is a symptom. Are you on HRT or antidepressants?

Hugsandsmiles · 14/12/2024 09:31

Hi thank you for replying. No I am not on HRT. I am too scared to go on it as there is a risk of breast cancer. I am really struggling and feel awful.

You need to do the research on HRT, I believe that there’s no increased risk until you’ve been on it 5 years , and it’s less of a risk than being overweight, or in drinking alcohol.
I was scared too but felt so bad that I committed to a 6 month trial, and it was so good that I never came off it. Honestly, I did it for myself and my kids as I didn’t want to feel like that, and I didn’t want my kids living with that

Hi,
Thank you for replying and giving me the kind information. I just wanted to ask has HRT made you feel better? Taken away the anxiety and weight gain and do you feel like yourself again?
God bless you and your family 🙏

Have you seen your GP?

DecemberArucana · 14/12/2024 11:36

I do think you need to see your GP.

LushLemonTart · 14/12/2024 11:36

If you're on Facebook there's good support groups on there. U.K. Hrt and menopause support is a good one.

2025istheyear · 14/12/2024 11:38

Why are you afraid of death?

Have you had to deal with relatives/friends going through illness or death lately?

Yes I feel so much better.
My anxiety and rage are so much better. I haven’t lost weight but that’s because my diet isn’t the best, and it’s something I have to tackle after Xmas.
Please don’t live this way, you don’t need to. Please see the GP and tell them everything, don’t be embarrassed 💐

HRT helped my anxiety in general, and I also experienced death anxiety as the result of a traumatic bereavement.

However it might not necessarily be hormonal, so it'll be a good idea to speak to your GP in case anti anxiety meds or antidepressants are a better fit for you? Especially if you are having suicidal ideation. Speak to a professional, they will be able to support you x

Hugsandsmiles · 14/12/2024 11:47

Hi Dustylee,

Thank you very much for your support and reassurance in this matter. I will definitely make an appointment to see my GP next week and request to go on it.
I will keep you updated.
Please pray for me 🙏

God bless you and your family and children ultimately Ameen 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Yes my both elder brothers passed aways a few years ago but I was okay until I hit menopause. It's only then when I started experiencing all this.

Thank you. I've been on antidepressants but they aren't helping at all. Did your anxiety and dearh anxiety go away when you started HRT?

@Hugsandsmiles do you do anything to relax? I'd recommend yoga nidra. There's some great videos on YouTube. It may seem strange to begin with but if you keep trying you'll find it very relaxing. It totally distracts you. I did a 10 minute one before work today because I've been stressing about MIL who's very poorly plus didn't feel too well myself. It helped enormously.

This isn’t actually strictly true as others have said. You also have to weigh up the risks to your mental health and the risk of suicide by not taking it - it can be life saving for some. It has made a huge difference for me.

Hi,
Thank you for replying. I understand that but I'm really scared to give it a go after everything negative I have heard about it. Please pray for me 🙏
God bless you 🙏

Hi,
Thank you for replying. No I haven't done yoga but can give it a go to see if it helps. Nothing is working for me. I feel awful.
Thank you and I pray you feel better as well and may God bless you and your family 🙏

@Hugsandsmiles it's not yoga you don't move. It's yoga nidra.

That's it. Also look up adrenal fatigue. And how the adrenal glands should take over when we go through menopause. That's as long as you eat healthy exercise etc.

No. Adrenal fatigue does not exist. You either have adrenal insufficiency (Addisons disease or secondary adrenal insufficiency which is fatal if untreated) or you do not have it. I have Addisons disease. We are trying to get the term adrenal fatigue banned in our community as it undermines the very serious condition we live with. If you suspect you have adrenal insufficiency you can ask for an 8-9am morning cortisol blood test via your Gp which will tell you if you have it or not. If you do have it only steroids will make any difference.
