I think I have SAD

please Share with me your experience-a of SAD. I think I might have it. I’m 49, in reasonably good health, I’ve never suffered from depression before but ever since the clocks have gone back I feel like I’ve been hit by a train. No motivation, no appetite, feeling really blue (the general grim news about the state of the world isn’t helping I must admit), it’s a real struggle to get up in the morning and I just want to get back into bed in the afternoon.

it seems to have come out of nowhere- I’m usually such a positive and energetic person. I’m really struggling to understand why I’m suddenly feeling like this, as there hasn’t been a specific event as such. Does this sound like SAD to you and if so please tell me it passes!!

MH issues aren't always caused by life. Some are but lots are random. Your brain goes haywire for no reason at all. Go see your GP, they'll probably prescribe antidepressants. Or try St John's Wort (from Boots etc) if you prefer herbs (will interfere with hormonal contraception though). www.llttf.com is free self help CBT designed by NHS. If it's SAD it may pass but UK winters are long there's no point suffering needlessly for 50% of your life. If you've never had SAD before there's no reason why you should have it now anyway. I don't think you'd be diagnosed with that unless your depression keeps returning each winter and leaves of its own accord in summer. Most likely you'll be told it's depression. GP may run some blood tests etc to check for physical causes of fatigue, if they think it's necessary. Hope you can get the help you need to feel better soon.
