I have intense irritability and I need relief from it.

HRT?

lenzo · 23/11/2024 13:04

Oh I never thought of that. Thank you

In the short term, look into Passionflower/Passiflora tablets. You can get them in Holland & Barrett, they turn down the inner noise very well. Non habit forming, safe and effective.

We need a bit more info! Is it hormonal, are you experiencing it before periods, are you the age for perimenopause?
Are you surrounded by intensely irritating people?

Check for iron deficiency. My elderly mother recently had a significant loss of blood and her haemoglobin is still down. Believe me, someone with low haemoglobin is irritable as hell.

lenzo · 23/11/2024 13:52

It could definitely be low iron.

I definitely am of perimenopausal age,

I have suspected ADHD and waiting for assessment.

I find most people irritating or boring unless they are talking about or debating interesting subjects. (I know that's mean I can't help it - small talk is Kryptonite to me). I find myself irritating and frustrating too lol!

I am AuADHD and absolutely feel irritable nearly all the time, increasingly so if I've missed taking my progesterone.
Time to see your GP op, it's a horrible way to feel.

When I started feeling like that I increased the amount of swimming I did. Seems to help, apart from when someone is swimming too slowly in the faster lane!

Calm app - has lots of tips and advice to help you in stressful situations.

Agree with pp over exercise- so not something to take but something to do.
Are you able to exercise?
Getting out in the cold and going for a walk or run shocks the body, feels awful at first but then you feel amazing once you get back inside!
Weights are amazing to release tension.
Boxing/body combat/boxercise.
Or even just doing the housework "angrily" to loud music helps!!!

lenzo · 23/11/2024 15:06

Weirdly enough exercise was making me feel even more irritable especially when I was doing it. I am someone that loves exercise but I have mobility problems and movement makes it worse and sets off more pain.

Walking in the cold sounds great right now, but the pain is not worth it.

I really am starting to think I have this and yes it is such a torturous way to feel. I'm sick of how they just hand you anti depressants though.

I’m perimenopausal and my irritation was getting out of control. Oestrogen gel has taken the edge off it

lenzo · 23/11/2024 15:10

I took a co codamol for the overwhelming irritability and I felt much better when it kicked in.

@Tootingbec Hormonal treatment is the only thing I havent tried. Anti depressants made me fat and do more miserable!

I think I need to ask for hormonsl help now.

Short term, one of those Trip drinks that have CBD in them. Can take the edge off the world's annoyingness but won't give you a hangover.

OrangeCorduroy · 23/11/2024 15:18

But long term, HRT.

Hi there,

Do these have any interactions? Thank you

Noshferatu · 23/11/2024 17:38

From memory, I think they can increase the effect of blood thinners. To be honest, I’d urge you to investigate that and other possible interactions for yourself, don’t take a stranger’s word for that.
