Been on citalopram ( 20mg) for 9 years since pnd after my son was born.
It took the edge of but I never felt normal really on it.
My husband has had a breakdown recently and was put on sertraline. It's made a massive difference
I spoke to my gp today who said the longer I'm on meds they can decrease jn their effectiveness and has prescribed sertraline 50mg .
Bit worried about what to expect

Following with interest, I’ve been on Citalopram for a few years but I’m not sure they’re doing much at all. Have wondered about trying something different but scared the initial ‘adjustment’ will make me feel horrible.

I’m on sertraline. Been really good for me.

I've tried both. First time on sertraline - it worked properly when I took it exactly same time every day and started to exercise. Did kill my motivation slightly. Citalopram - as before, worked better when I took it same time every day. Gave me fatigue.

It's kind of picking the least side effects. Both worked.

Sertraline was a nightmare to taper off though, I got IBS, acne, whooshing feeling etc. Took about 3 months of tapering, bought a pill cutter on Amazon so I could taper slowly.

Citalopram much easier to come off.

Don’t have any experience with citalopram but my sister said she had awful brain zaps tapering off it.

I’ve been on & off sertraline since 2019. Off it twice & back on this month due to work related stress & anxiety.

other than a headache the first week & upset stomach I find it manageable until it starts taking affect. Usually after 2 weeks you feel better
