I have been perscribed sertraline, by the physchiatrist (sp?) at my local cmht, for servere pnd, but I have had really bad experiences on antidepressants before, and I am really really scared of taking it. I am also breastfeeding, and although the doc said it is safe i'm not sure that i'm convinced, anyway if anyone has any experiences of this please let me know!

I took it. Had some side effects for the first couple of weeks - kind of buzzy feeling, restlessness, butterflies in stomach - which soon died down. I found sertraline was fantastic for reducing my rampant post natal anxiety. It saved my life.

I was breastfeeding and continued to feed throughout. Was advised that it was safe, and my healthy happy 2.11 year old would seem to back that up!

Hope it works for you. If the side effects are too severe or don't reduce over time, ask for a different type of AD. Obviously you have had experiences with other AD's so you know which ones to avoid.

PND is awful - really hope you are getting all the support you need. Do you have access to any groups/CBT/counselling? Are you able to do some exercise? Are you eating ok?

Thanks, I am trying to get help, but they seem to want to give me anti d's and then nothing else, I cant go to the local mind groups as they dont have facilities for my 2 ds's and I dont have family/ friends to ask to help out, I get out a couple of times a day on the school run, but i'm finding it hard to eat, or at least not junk, chocolate etc

I took it from when I was 12 weeks pregnant until DD was 18 months. I breastfed her until she was 10 months. She is now 2.7 and is also healthy and happy .

It made me feel sick for the first couple of weeks (although it may have been some morning sickness hanging on) but I found that taking it in the evening helped that. It started to have a real effect within a few weeks.

I feel that sertraline saved my life and that of DD - it helped me crawl out of the pit I was in.

I hope sertraline is able to help you like it did me.

i was given setraline whilst breastfeeding

i found it fine. I had never had anti d's before and was very uncertain

Personally i did not like being on them and came off them as soon as i was stable....

HOWEVER for the 6 months i think i was on them they were a life saver.I was suffering a severe anxiety related to things in my past which arose post natally

the sertraline just calmed me without really causing any side effects.I did gain a wee bit of weight i think but i mean just half a stone in 6 months...do not recall other side effects aside from positive ones

please try not to worry it will be fine

Hi, I started taking sertraline two weeks ago - it has really helped me lots. I was suffering from apalling insomnia - now I take the sertraline just before bed and I'm sleeping much better (just wish dd would sleep too..). I do still feel sick most mornings but it could be worse. I'm also breastfeeding and having researched on-line I believe it's the safest option. Good luck, I fretted like mad before taking the first one and really didn't want to - I also had a really bad night of insomnia that very first night, ended up taking a sleeping pill too as spent the next day in a real fugg. would not recommend combining sertraline with sleeping pills (although doc said it was ok). I hope you feel better soon and in a couple of weeks you will see some of the improvements that I have. Best wishes.
