Practical help. DS22. Needs counselling

Nothing diagnosed, DS finished uni 6/24. Never able to sustain friendships. Quite a 'flat' demeanour. Unapproachable, but recognising he's probably depressed. Now bedroom living at home, meals together, very occasional TV. Had some uni counselling (6 weeks) beginning of final year, no idea how that went.

Had a chat this evening. He can't see 'a future' for himself.

We've agreed this is unsustainable.

But, is there any point whatsoever in pursuing NHS ongoing counselling, or even prescriptions? Or do we grit our teeth and go private; and how? Where do you search? Is it a minefield of charlatans?😳

Any thought appreciated.

Of course there is a point. He can speak to his GP about how he is feeling and may be offered antidepressants. Look online for therapy services in your area and there will almost certainly be a free service he can self refer to, might be a bit of a waiting list. First stop is speak to the GP.

Thanks. I honestly thought having read so much that it would be pointless contacting his GP; 2 year waiting lists etc.
