January and February hope

I’m finding January and February harder to cope with each year. I used to love the Seasons but once the mad preparation of Christmas is over I get in a slump. It’s a shame as my birthday is early February but it doesn’t seem to help.
What to others do in the last winter months to keep their spirits up?

I like the planning ahead! I'm a seasoned SAD-er. This year I've booked a sunny break in December.

Things I like to do in Jan/Feb - its a nice time to go to the theatre I find. There can be some good shows. Obviously £ but a nice thing to look forward to. There is also the Scottish event which the name totally escapes me at end of Jan and Chinese New Year if you find anything going on related to these.

I also like to get head on fitness goals staying from Feb- Jan will generally be the planning phase for that in terms of sorting nutrition and exercise routine.

I will also probably book a holiday / break for May as that will give me a focus to look forward to.

It's also a nice time for catching up with friends as everyone is skint so organising a dinner at home is probably welcome.

February can be a bit of a slog for sure, I think I'm just going to bury myself in an exercise routine, but maybe it's a good time to do an online course in something.

There is also declutttering - it's nice to get things decluttered for Spring bit by bit and maybe a clean but that's not terribly exciting 😂

I'd be really interested to hear other people's ideas.

Could also do a vision Board and break goals down into months. Create a reading list for the year.

Book a haircut and beauty treatments. A spa day or spa weekend.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and time to reply. I think I’m usually skint and feeling fat after Christmas and my father died in January a long time ago when I was 18. So it’s just a bit of a low time.
i like the idea of dinners in with friends :-)
I’ve been doing really well with fitness this year so hope to continue into the New Year so I don’t get that ‘New Year New You’ rubbish and I just continue on as I have been.
TBH I’m in a bit of a rut at the moment. I spend most my time working and being with my family but I no longer socialise unless it’s a group thing my husband has organised. I feel both lonely but also don’t want to socialise. It’s rather Catch 22. It might be my age (late 40s).

The six nations kicks off in Feb which my partner is really into. I usually try and get a bit into it too going to the pub to watch games and inviting friends over.

Burns night is the one the previous poster was thinking of!

I think trying to embrace being cosy - getting some good books for Christmas to carry you through Jan is nice. Light some candles. Warm blankets, movie nights.

Getting out for a walk and fresh air despite the weather. Seeing lots of family.

If you can afford it getting some winter sun is the dream!

If you can afford even just long weekend somewhere in February that might help ? I also hate jan and feb . The festivities kind of get us through till then . I also lost my Dad as a child in February so I think that doesn't help. As soon as the snowdrops and crocuses are out I do start feeling better though . Cosy throws and candles will have to suffice till then !

My husband loves the 6 Nations too - I love rugby and have a season ticket for local Premiership team but I’ve kind of got bored with the 6 Nations and lose my husband at that point! X

I’m sorry to hear that.
I kind of wish Christmas could be in Jan or Feb as the festivities also carry me along and I love the Spring and the arrival of the bulb flowers! X
