My DD is 20 and lives at home. I am her full time carer but she also has professional carers come to the house 5 mornings a week.
She has a learning disability and possible autism (awaiting assessment) but in December 2022, her mental health rapidly declined into severe depression, anxiety and psychosis. She went from a chatty, happy person who had a great sense of humour, to someone who never smiles, won't talk, won't get out of bed, scared to do anything and is even scared of me.
She's on numerous medications - antidepressants, antipsychotics and benzodiazepines. I would say they have definitely calmed the psychosis but it's like she can't function anymore. She has no quality of life, doesn't do anything apart from go on her phone. It's heartbreaking!
She was sectioned from March 2023 to September 2023 in a specialist LD unit.
I spoke to her psychiatrist recently as I was wondering if it could be her medication making her not able to function and I mentioned about possibly trying some different medication. He didn't want to alter anything though so I'm just stuck not knowing what to do for her. She's not the same person she used to be and I just don't know how to help her.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to help her get better? Professionals seem to want to push her to do things but all she seems to want to do is be left alone. She will happily stay in her bedroom all day.
