Life insurance and medical records

I’m currently applying for life insurance in order to buy a house and they want to see my medical records due to me being on sertraline for post partum anxiety. I’m now worried that they will either not insure me or will increase my premium. I have a history of anxiety and periods of burn out /low mood. No suicide risk and a short period of superficial self harm when I was a teenager. Has anyone here had their medical records checked for insurance before?

I had an absolute nightmare with medical records and life insurance to the point I gave up.

They had wanted to check my records as I’d had investigation for a skin issue - fair enough and I wasn’t worried as it was all diagnosed and sorted out. BUT when they did this it came up with INCORRECT info ??? I was totally confused and stressed I had to meet with my gp.
bit of background I have an extremely abusive and dysfunctional family where im the scapegoat and my sister (golden child) had extensive MH issue and had self harmed a lot but when my mother had taken her to a and e each time it transpires they gave MY details (she always wanted dsis to be ‘perfect’ and to make me appear less than) . All the date and details fitted with what I’d seen dsis do. But all on MY records and if I hadn’t tried to get life insurance I’d never have know. Nothing I could do and I was really really devastated. I begged my gp and showed them I hadn’t got scars etc and explained but without an admission from my mother and / or sister there was nothing I could do

Yes. I have bipolar so had to go through a specialist broker.
My premium is quite a bit more than my partners for the same cover. The broker found one that was very expensive another which was more affordable.
The provider I ended up going with didn't penalise for self harm and suicidal thoughts as they said it was part of the bipolar diagnosis. They still wanted to see my records, I had the choice of reviewing the report before it was sent to them but I decided that it wasn't going to be good for my mental health to see it all laid out as the process itself was difficult enough before I found the specialist broker.
I can't remember the name of the company exactly something like cura medical

I had issues getting life insurance because of the questions they asked (I attempted suicide as a teenager among other things). I started a few online applications with different companies and either gave up due to the questions or because I’d reach a screen saying I had to phone them.

However I had luck with Aviva who only asked questions about the past 5 years and seemed a lot less intrusive than others. Could you give them a try?

Aviva is the company my broker found me.
They counted suicidal thoughts/plans and self harm as a teenager as part of my bipolar rather than in addition as it is part of the diagnosis. It was reassuringly refreshing as it felt like double punishment one for having mental illness and then for exhibiting the symptoms of the mental illness. It is a while ago that I did the form but I don't think they asked for any specifics about suicidal intentions and self harm. Other companies wanted a list of every time it had happened and after 15 years of being mentally ill that was a difficult list to even consider trying to compile!
