When to stop sertraline?

How did you know when to stop? I've been on 50 for about ten months now due to anxiety/panic attacks.
I feel like I'm possibly ready to reduce and taper off, but concerned about withdrawal symptoms and the thought of the anxiety/panic attacks returning.

I'd be grateful to hear others' experiences if you're happy to share, thank you :)

Hi there. I have been on it this time since 2020. Just 25mg. Tried to come off it but then some stress at work and the anxiety returned with a vengeance so I went back on it. Also came off it in 2019 but then covid so I’ve realised I need to stay on this small maintenance dose. How much are you on?

I stopped mine recently. I was only taking 25mg for a long time though. Was on them for about four years. I gradually tapered it down. I feel reasonably ok without them although a bit more tearful than when I was on them but then I did feel that they 'numbed' my emotions. I didn't consult my GP before stopping but I think it would probably be best to seek advice from your GP before making a decision.

Just make sure you come off them gradually, you can feel very ill if you just stop.

Remember it’s always easier / seems like a better idea to come off in summer when the days are longer. My GP always says see how you feel in winter then start to taper in very early spring.

Also coming off sertraline now. Have been on 75% for 3 days now. Had been on 100mg for about 1.5years. I should really be on 88%, but can’t cut the pill any smaller.

When I stopped escitalopram - but they are different, half life, etc - I had to follow the taper guideline half as fast. So if it told me to be on 20 eg for 1 week, I did it for 2. Still it was a struggle. But sertraline seems to be easier. My tummy is a bit upset, but am actually feeling better (could be other things I’m doing, to compensate, having a positive effect)

V good point.
Am a bit late but can’t stand it anymore and have to come off it so, not much choice.

re knowing when to stop: I’ve been taking it longer than Its usefulness. It was very helpful at the time and allowed me to live life with a semblance of normality, but it doesn’t work anymore and I want to try psilocybin so have to stop.

Thank you all for sharing. I am considering cutting dose in half and seeing how I manage on 25 for a while. I'll give it some thought.
