Everything is a mess

I gave up my job to sort out my house and the house seems worse than it was when I was working.

I keep starting things and then leaving them and it all gets messed up but I can’t seem to motivate myself to sort it out. Example: sorting some paperwork. Started it yesterday when the kids were at school. Left piles all over the living room which have now been disturbed/kicked over by the kids.

Whole house is a dirty mess. Nobody respects anything.

What is wrong with me?? 😭

You gave up your job to sort your house?

Focus on one task at a time, otherwise it's too overwhelming. One room and one bit of mess. How old are the kids? Can you get them to help you? Make a list and tick off each job as you complete it?

Well, there is a little more to it than that. But I was meant to use the time off work to blitz it.

the kids could help (and should!) I’ve been thinking of assigning them jobs but I need to get my own head straight first.

thank you

Another day and the same completely hopeless feelings.

Write a to do list and plan what you want to achieve each day. Don’t over book the days or you’ll set yourself up to fail.

Thank you @TeenLifeMum

They are aged 6-14.

Have you seen the NatWest rooster card? You pay in pocket money and you can set chores so money get £1 for cleaning the bunnies weekly and another £1 if they do the recycling. Whichever dc does the task gets the payment so it makes them competitive. It’s just a token amount. They also empty the dishwasher every morning with a layer each (3dc and 3 layers) but no payment as I call that being part of the family.

Thank you @TeenLifeMum .

my kids do have rooster cards but I haven’t set up chores on there. Like you, I see the dishwasher etc as being part of a family BUT I will think of other chores i can pay them for!

It can even be 50p - just a token amount to encourage them. It really depends on what motivates your dc. My youngest 2 are money driven, eldest isn’t but just naturally helps out.
