I've recently been diagnosed with bpd. I'm under a brilliant Psycologist. Currently waiting for a report to send to my gp. Does anyone here have this and is able to explain possible medication to me? I'm currently on 20mg of citalopram and have been for multiple years. I don't feel now that it's working well. I'm unsure if that is the meds or my current situation. Can I please ask what you maybe taking? Thanks

Hi i dont take medication but have done lots of therapy. A new therapy is MBT mentalised based therapy and it really has helped me

Also ask and explain this to your psychiatrist and they may suggest a different anti depressant or up your dose !

I'm on Mirtazapine and it helps a lot. But I tried a couple of others before finding one that works (for me) - it really does depend on the person. Sertraline for example sent me into psychosis but apparently works for many. If what you're taking isn't working ask your doctor for a med review

Op can I ask if you have a lot of childhood trauma? CPTSD’s various treatment are often helpful,

I think I do. I'll speak to my psychologist about this. Thankyou

I'll call the gp on Monday and ask for a review. So tired of feeling like this and feel like there is no way out

Hi!
Fellow BPD here. I had DBT and personal talking therapy and spent a few years on antipsychotics. I don't take them anymore but take Clomipramine which is amazing.
The main life saver for me has been making my life stable and understanding why my mind works the way it does.
It takes a lot of practice but I've managed to control my behaviour and rationalise my feelings.

Does someone with undiagnosed BPD know that some of their behaviour is not "normal" ?

Are you asking for yourself or someone else? For me personally, yes, I knew something was 'wrong'. I also have C-PTSD from an abusive relationship and my triggers from that exacerbated the BPD.

I've clung onto relationships that I knew really I should have left, self harmed, engaged in risky behaviour etc etc.

I remember reading the 9 key symptoms of BPD online and thinking wow, this is 100% me. It was a relief tbh to put a name to what was going on and thereby getting some help

deeahgwitch · 16/08/2024 12:16

I'm asking because I strongly suspect an adult relative has it but has not been diagnosed.
I think Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder is a more suitable "name" for the condition I think she is suffering from.
I am not close to the relative but occasionally she will bombard me with calls. Some after midnight. Most would consider it odd behaviour..
I just wondered would she have self awareness that this is not "normal" behaviour.
We would discuss the same things over and over, ask for advice and not take a blind bit of notice of said advice .
She has had a difficult childhood in that it was a very unhappy home, there was a golden child, sadly not her.
Her relationships have all fallen apart as she is so needy and intense.
So sad.
I just wish she could get the help she needs so she can have a decent life.

@deeahgwitch it's the same thing, I use BPD as that's what I was originally diagnosed with but EUPD is the current term.

It sounds like she could have but I suppose you can't force someone to get help if they don't want to. I certainly had self awareness that some of my actions weren't 'normal' (also very needy and intense) but some of my friends and family have (to me) very obvious undiagnosed conditions - mostly autism and adhd - and haven't sought help. I'm not sure raising it would be helpful - I have done this previously and it didn't go down well!
