New Years Sulk

Well - it looks like it's gonna be a typical crap new years' eve. For the last 3 years we haven't seen new year in as we have been very tired and not getting much sleep since dd2 was born. We are feeling a bit more human now and decided to invite some friends over, with their kids, even offered a bed for the night so they could relax and have a few drinks. Everyone either had something planned already or didn't want to keep their kids out late so a couple of people said they may pop in for an hour for a drink instead. Nothing came of it so looks like it's just dh, me and two dds. I know I should be happy with this but kids have been bickering constantly all over christmas and are driving me mad. Unfortunately we have no one to babysit for us so we will have to stay in. dm has offered to babysit for us for a couple of hours if we want to go out for a drink (we would have to be back early) but dh has said that he doesn't want to go out and come back early so he would rather just stay in. A couple of our mates are going into town and have said that we are welcome to join them if we like.
So I am sat here with a dodgy cracker party hat on, lots of chocolate, swigging on a bottle of grolsch.

It's a disaster here - we were supposed to go to friends for dinner tonight, then all stay over. Kids were so excited, and then friend phoned to say she'd gone down with a stomach bug. We're going to have New Year at theirs on Monday night instead, so tonight, it's dh, me and the kids who are determined to stay up til midnight. Oh joy.

We were going to friends too but started controlled crying on our amazing non sleeping baby last night and there would have been no point starting it last night if we were going to take her to a strange place and try to shush her in the middle of the night tonight. So as not to waste 2 hours of horror last night we've cancelled friend (who doesn't mind and half expected it, she has 2 children too) and we're ready to do the same again tonight but at least we're ready for Mrs non sleeping DD and are drinking Champagne in the meantime! Here's my joke contribution:

A woman walks into a bar and asks for a double entendre.
So the barman gives her one

BOOM BOOM! Happy Noo Year everyone

SPARKLER1 ANYTHING with Nigel Harman in is worth watching.

I don't know what I'd do if I had to choose between Nigel Harman and David Walliams.

MarsLady · 31/12/2004 20:21

Here's a quick prayer for those with annoying DP/Hs (apologies to all who have heard it before)

A Woman's Prayer
Dear Lord I pray for wisdom to understand my man, love to forgive him, patience for his moods because Lord if I pray for strength I'll beat him to death.

paolosgirl · 31/12/2004 20:22

I will have fun!! I'll have a drink for all of you (quickly counting everyone)....oooh lovely, that's 13

SPARKLER1 · 31/12/2004 20:39

You sound like you have a friendly neighbourhood. I would love to have a street party. Our neighbours tend to keep themselves to themselves - very boring.
