How do you cope with sad thoughts?

I know I can't stop them, I've tried, but realised that they will never stop. So I just want to know how I can deal with this?

I've tried all the usual exercises and eat better but it doesn't really touch it.

Just need a way to deal with it better.

What are the sad thoughts about?

Are they sad thoughts about your own life and things that have happened?

Or more unspecified feelings of sadness about the state of the world/your life ?

i find it really helps to acknowledge the sad thoughts and give them some space but then also count some blessings and look for positives

i also find meditation and yoga really help with anxiety and moods. And big walks to clear my mind

When I'm feeling fed up and start thinking that everything is going wrong, I try to balance it by thinking of good things that have happened. Can be tiny things, like it's not windy today, the supermarket had nearly everything I wanted today etc. And I write them down. I appreciate this may not be for everyone but it really helped me a few years ago when I was off work because of my mental health and I've carried on doing it.

Replace them with a positive thought about yourself immediately.

If you get stuck in a spiral put some loud music on and dance them away.

I actually have a play list called ‘move my body’ - it really works

It's never a sad thought about myself. Always about other people who might be having a hard time for some reason or another. I often invent bad scenarios in my head which I don't know are actually happening, but I know they could be a reality for someone. If that makes sense.

Just makes me feel really sad.

Do you ever invent good scenarios? If you don't, try starting one as soon as a bad one threatens - it will take practice but you can do it. Winning the lottery is a good one. What's the first thing you'd do, who would you love to give money to, how would your life change?

Thank you for the advice but I would find that hard to do. I will try it though so thank you.
